The 'Circular Economy' approach to production, waste reduction and consumption is as necessary as it is transformative, but it is one that can only function effectively when underpinned by trust — trust that the waste products circulating within the economy are safe, trust they are free of hazardous materials and trust that their origins can be traced and certified. It's great to be a part of this stellar lineup to discuss how we can move forward as an industry and provide more room and appetite for circular products, while maintaining compliance and public trust. Looking forward to seeing you there!!
Last 48hours to join the upcoming Melbourne Branch Event! https://lnkd.in/gGT94ceJ The main purpose of this event is to identify and address key problems hindering progress and to develop strategies to improve the safety, sustainability, and reliability of circular economies in construction. By encouraging dialogue and collaboration among various stakeholders, across 2 panels, we aim to enhance the efficiency and responsibility of recycling practices in the construction industry. EBSA - Australia PHIVE (5 Parramatta Square) stands as a testament to sustainable design, earning a prestigious 6-star Green Star accreditation, a significant marker for public buildings. Designed with an eye toward eco-consciousness, PHIVE boast a layout that encourages thermal comfort and minimises reliance on traditional air conditioning, underlining Parramatta City Council’s commitment to operating PHIVE as a carbon-neutral entity. EBSA is honoured to have contributed to this landmark project by incorporating our energy-efficient Schneider BT90 thermally broken double-glazed louvres and digital CPS-M control panel into the building’s façade. These elements work seamlessly with the building management and control system (BMCS), enhancing air quality and facilitating the removal of aerosol particles through the use of thermal chimneys and operable louvres. Positioned at the core of Parramatta CBD, this Civic Centre not only serves as the community, cultural and civic hub but also sets a benchmark for government building sustainability in the state. Its design minimises the need for artificial heating and cooling, emphasizing environmental performance through sustainable design principles. EBSA has a range of air quality sensors that can be retrofitted to existing projects and work in conjunction with new or existing automated facade systems to extend the benefits if improved air quality and environmental control to educational and professional environments. Our 21st-century (super!) smart building has just landed a 6 Star Green Star rating - the highest sustainability rating - representing world leadership in building design and construction. Giant louvres that respond to weather conditions, solar collectors, water harvesting and innovative roofing panels allowing natural light are just some of the features the Green Building Council of Australia looked at when certifying PHIVE as 6 Star Green Star rated. Seeing a few BERDO/BUEDO decarbonization playbooks making the rounds and am a bit concerned... 🤔 ...that holistic thinking about a building is being replaced by tunnel vision on one or two aspects of a decarbonization project. With each building having its own conditions and rehab history, there are many variables to consider in a decarbonization plan -- envelope condition and its ability to support new structure, existing mechanical/plumbing equipment lifespan, air tightness of both walls and ducts, etc etc. There's not a one-size-fits-all approach and tackling one thing before another might impact your building or budget negatively in the long term. I love to work with building owners on this kind of thing, but I'm certainly not the only one. Consider joining us in the Decarbonizing Existing Buildings Alliance in our next meeting on August 7th and staying engaged in conversation with others doing the work.
