In honor of #EarthMonth, some of our amazing team members spent the day getting dirty at the San Elijo Lagoon in our hometown of San Diego! Together with our partner SeaTrees and local San Diego nonprofit, The Nature Conservancy, we are helping to restore 15k sq-ft of salt marsh at their coastal watershed restoration project. This project supports Bumble Bee’s sustainability pillar of caring for our oceans, not only internationally, but also locally. Bumble Bee staff counted and identified plants, planted native species, removed invasive species, and cleaned up trash. Thank you to SeaTrees and The Nature Collective for educating us and allowing us to get involved in our local community! #BumbleBee #Sustainability #SanDiego

Like many of us, you may be pondering how you can contribute to the planet and your community on Earth Day. With our clean energy future, air and water quality, public lands, and endangered species on the line, it's crucial that we take action. Fortunately, the grassroots environmental movement is thriving, and every action we take to honor the planet counts. This year, there are several effective and enjoyable ways to make a difference. Here are a few: - Plant a tree or participate in a community garden to help promote greenery and clean air. - Organize a neighborhood clean-up event to keep streets and parks litter-free. - Reduce your carbon footprint by biking or walking instead of driving - Donate to an environmental organization or volunteer your time to help protect wildlife and their habitats. Let's come together on Earth Day to make a positive impact on our planet and future generations. Remember, every little bit counts! #EarthDay #EnvironmentalMovement #Sustainability

Bull kelp is responding to restoration efforts! Caspar Cove, located on the rugged Northern California coast, has been significantly impacted by ocean warming and the overpopulation of purple sea urchins, leading to the devastating loss of kelp forests. Our initiative, in partnership with the Watermen's Alliance, focuses on community-driven efforts to restore these vital ecosystems. Recent surveys are showing some promising results of our efforts! Data coming soon 🤓 🤿 Participate in urchin culling and kelp monitoring to help us restore balance and promote biodiversity. 🌳 Don't miss the forest for the trees—but what about the birds, bugs, and shrubs? All of these lifeforms are essential for forest longevity and regeneration. 🦅 This National Bird Day 2024, ARC features this pair of writhed hornbills whose role in seed dispersal drives forest development: two seemingly small parts of the whole ecosystem whose well-being is inextricably linked with the forest and the ecosystem as a whole. ❗Writhed hornbills are considered near threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to habitat loss. Restoration projects initiated by ARC are designed to create habitat for threatened wildlife like the Writhed hornbill. 💚ARC considers the forest, and its trees, birds, and bugs—seeing the forest for its parts and as a whole in order to restore the environment. A wonderful milestone achieved by our charity partner The National Forest Company – they have reached a remarkable 25% forest cover, following three decades of environmental regeneration. Over 200 square miles of once scarred post-industrial landscape is now a vibrant forest of over 9.5 million trees; enhancing the landscape, creating wildlife habitats and spaces for wellbeing and recreation. As the forest flourishes, it’s encouraging to hear that wildlife and biodiversity is making a remarkable recovery, bucking the trend of species declines nationally; woodland species such as sparrowhawk, brown long-eared bat and speckled wood butterfly are seeing particular increases, alongside the reintroduction of rare species such as dormice as habitats are reconnected. We think you’ll agree that this is welcome news in a world that is facing fierce environmental challenges. Mangroves and Saltmarsh are among the most valuable and productive ecosystems on earth, and are also the most threatened, disappearing at an alarming rate globally. At Earthwatch, we refuse to stand idly by while mangroves face unprecedented challenges. Through our innovative approach, we educate, activate and empower communities to highlight local mangrove values and identify threats. By doing so, we enable local communities to become champions of mangrove conservation. Join us in continuing this momentum. We can make a meaningful difference in the work to preserve our planet's biodiversity to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. 🎉 3,000 kilometers: Celebrating a milestone and a cause close to our hearts! 🌊 We've just passed the 3,000-kilometer mark on our journey to New York! Each pedal stroke brings us closer to our goal and to supporting two incredible causes. Today we want to highlight Ocean Conservancy. As many of you know, we - Maren and Matthias - can usually be found sailing the world's oceans. So it's only logical that we support Ocean Conservancy - they are dedicated to protecting our oceans from today's most pressing global challenges. Their mission: "Together, we are creating evidence-based solutions for a healthy ocean and the wildlife and communities that depend on it." A few days ago we reached the Atlantic again - the ocean we crossed with our VAST two years ago. In sailing, as in cycling, as in life, we have to live with the circumstances. There's a quote, „We can't change the wind, but we can change the sails.“ While the exact origin is unknown, similar phrases have been used by various authors, and the meaning of the quote is clear: while we cannot control external circumstances, we can adjust (our response) and make the best of the situation. So how about directing our efforts toward effective solutions! Join us in supporting Ocean Conservancy and its vision for a vibrant, healthy ocean. Every mile we ride and every dollar we donate helps. Stay tuned for more updates! 🌍💚 #VastOnWheels #Sustainability #OceanConservancy #NewYorkandBack
