Everything you need to know about tunnel construction safety!
Work construction of tunnels is indeed one of the most complicated and sensitive engineering tasks that involves great planning, accurate execution, and response regarding safety concerns. Whether carrying traffic, utilities, or even used as shelters, tunnels are important constituents of many infrastructure systems around the world. Building such passages underground is by no means free from troubles. Safety in the construction of tunnels is really a major concern, as the task is indeed hazardous-from possible structural collapses to even fire hazards. Thus, the adoption of advanced safety technologies and procedures for the protection of workers is very important in order to ensure the success of the project. This article explains the processes, the problems arising, the risks involved, and the modern tunnel construction safety technologies, taking as an example the recent modernization currently underway in Austria's Arlberg road tunnel. Perfect application & solution that’s a win for the community & environment!
As part of the Cheltenham and Mentone Level Crossing Removal Project in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs, a new 3.5km shared path was constructed to connect Honour Grove in Cheltenham to Warrigal Road in Mentone. Read how Leadsun partnered with Kingston City Council, Q4 Electrical and Communications and Southern Program Alliance to design a robust but adaptable outdoor pathway lighting system to improve commuter safety without disturbing nearby residents with undue glare. https://lnkd.in/gEwGRQjq #PublicSafety #SharedPathway #ActiveTransport

We recently encountered an intriguing case study involving the construction of a sound barrier wall in Perth East. The objective was to attenuate noise levels on one side of the rail tracks. However, the result was a significant increase in noise pollution on the opposite side, particularly affecting the residents of Movida Estate due to sound reflection and reverberation off the wall. According to reports, the developer and local council did not engage with existing residents during the planning phase. Independent acoustic monitoring subsequently revealed noise levels exceeding regulatory limits by 29 decibels. One long-time resident noted that the noise from the rail line has become so intrusive that he can no longer open his windows, and his sleep quality has been severely impacted. This scenario underscores the critical importance of involving an independent acoustic engineer in such infrastructure projects. An impartial acoustic consultant ensures that the concerns of all stakeholders are thoroughly considered and that the proposed noise mitigation strategies are effective without unintended negative consequences. Without the expert input of an independent acoustic engineer, well-intentioned projects can inadvertently exacerbate noise issues, leading to significant community dissatisfaction and harm. Engaging an independent acoustic engineer not only benefits the immediate project by providing a comprehensive noise assessment and control strategy but also fosters long-term community well-being and trust. #AcousticConsultingAustralia #NoiseControl #CommunityWellBeing #SoundManagement #IndependentConsulting #AcousticEngineering
