FUCK Single-Use Plastic. There, we said it. We're changing the way we do packaging, and we're starting by ditching the polybag for something better: glassine. Our new bags (pictured above) are made from FSC-certified paper, making it easier to recycle and better for the environment. You may see this new packaging in your next order from burton.com and more packaging changes in the future. #Burton #Snowboarding

Are you seeing less plastic waste now that paper has replaced it everywhere? Us neither. So we’re going to show you how to actually do it.

Oh great! Burton Snowboards are climate deniers. I knew it. In case you’re wondering why, paper is recycled maybe 3 times and then landfilled. In landfills this paper mailer will break down , producing methane which is 28x more potent a greenhouse gas than CO2. Every paper mailer Burton makes, they are contributing to global warming. Bravo for this brave and majestic move ! 👏 ….seriously tho, you should call us. You need guidance. Change Plastic for Good Ltd

By “easier to recycle”, you mean what?

As a passionate advocate for the circular economy, I'm disheartened to see prominent brands touting paper as a sustainable solution. The truth is, the environmental impact of paper production far surpasses that of plastic. Meanwhile, dedicated organizations like the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and various plastic pacts are working tirelessly to revolutionize recycling and flexible film processing. But when industry giants engage in greenwashing, using slick marketing to convince consumers that paper is the better choice, it undermines our efforts to build a genuinely sustainable future. Let's be clear: paper is not the solution. Responsible use of plastic, a remarkable and versatile material, is the way forward. Let's work together to create a true circular economy, where products are designed to be recycled or reused and waste is a thing of the past. We must break free from the linear economy's 'take, make, throw away' mentality and embrace a regenerative, restorative approach that benefits both people and the planet.

I feel like marketing these days is mirroring the movie industry. Recycling the same “ooh what can we do to be edgy?” approach. There was an influx of this “let’s be rebels and break down barriers” stuff awhile back and to be honest, it’s had its day. Burton makes great gear. They have an established brand and I don’t think for one second they have ever promoted anything they don’t believe is a solid idea to back up. Just be direct. State what you’re doing and why. Focus on the idea and your stance, versus a gimmicky way of saying it. If you support environmentally-friendly materials, just say it…without having marketing go “wait, we need an edgy way to make us sound rebellious?…hold my beer. Let’s use *f#ck on our packaging. That will really show we’re behind this.”
