Are you a Revolut user? 🚀 Early Revolut Crowdfunders See 40,000% Increase in Investment Value! 💥On Friday, UK fintech giant Revolut announced a new valuation of $45 billion, up from $33 billion. This incredible milestone has resulted in a staggering 40,000% increase in value for early crowdfunders who invested in Revolut back in 2016. These lucky investors, who initially took a chance on the then one-year-old startup via platforms like Crowdcube, have seen the paper value of their stakes skyrocket. Some have even crossed the $1 million mark! 🤑 As Matt Cooper, co-CEO of Crowdcube, highlighted, "It’s a pretty unprecedented event in UK and European tech," especially given that retail investors rarely get the opportunity to invest in early-stage tech giants like Spotify. While the potential for massive returns is real, it's important to remember the risks involved. Crowdfunding investments can be highly volatile, with some startups unfortunately not making it. However, for those early Revolut backers, this has been an extraordinary win.💼 Could this be a sign of things to come for retail investors in fintech? Only time will tell. ⏳ Source: https://lnkd.in/eGBczvUi #angelinvesting #businessangels #startups Nina Dremelj Maja Križan

Was Revolut’s 2016 Crowdcube campaign the best crowdfunding opportunity of all time? £1M RETURNS FROM A 2K INVESTMENT A year after being founded Revolut offered Crowdcube investors the opportunity to buy up to 2.4% of the business at a £40m valuation. 433 savvy investors decided to take a punt on this early stage startup which generated only £120k of revenue in 2015. The average amount invested was £2,152. Assuming a conservative valuation of $23bn (which is what TriplePoint Capital recently downgraded their valuation to) this would return £730k (339x the initial investment). Assuming the 2021 valuation of $33bn this would return £1.3m - an insane 600x return on investment! 😲 WILD. This is assuming no dilution, and Revolut will need to exit for their returns to be realised, but when they do they’re in for a big pay day. The photo below is the financial projections Revolut used in the crowdfund. A rare case of a startup under-projecting their revenue growth. They predicted £54m of revenue by 2019; they actually did £166m! Marcel van Oost recently reported that Revolut are adding about 40k new customers a day! Respect to the retail investors who backed the company when they had 200k total users. This does account for dilution! #founders #startups #crowdfunding

This is an interesting example of how equity crowdfunding democratises access to investment opportunities in emerging companies. Investors still need to do their own research and seek their own legal and financial advice before investing because, like always, only a few of the companies presented have the potential to become significant businesses.

Plum and Prosper: The Fintech Startups Crowdfunding RIGHT NOW I’ve recently posted a lot about very successful crowdfunds and the returns to retail investors. As a result lots of people have reached out to ask how to get involved in investing in startups through platforms like Crowdcube. As such, I thought it might be interesting to occasionally highlight some cool startups that are currently crowdfunding. Obviously, this does NOT constitute investment advice - please do your own research before investing. My aim is to shine a spotlight on some cool startups that people might be interested in investing in. Plum Plum is a smart money app that makes wealth building automatic. It was founded by Alex Michael and Victor Trokoudes in 2016, and now offers a wide range of saving and investment products. To date they've raised over £53m from top tier VCs and retail investors via two previous rounds on Crowdcube. Key Facts: 🚀 £135m Valuation 🚀 £16m ARR 🚀 79% GM The crowdfund is currently open to those who signed up to early access. For those interested I will be doing a deeper dive into Plum’s crowdfund when it opens up to everyone (looking at its financials profile and growth). Prosper Prosper provides pensions, investments and savings that have clear and low charges. It aims to stand out from competitors by helping its customers pay the lowest fees on the highest returning investment products. Key facts: 🚀 Founded by experienced entrepreneurs: Nick Perrett (former CPO at Tandem bank), Ricky Knox (founder and former CEO of Tandem Bank) and Phillip Bungey (COO nutmeg) 🚀 £3.2m raised from Tom Blomfield (Monzo), Matt Cooper (Capital One), other top founders, and VCs (MMC and Portfolio Ventures) 🚀 £13m valuation 🚀 £15m AUM Prosper is at a very early stage but is founded by experienced entrepreneurs and backed by some industry giants. They’re raising money to build out their proposition and aim for £1m ARR. Both exciting companies!

The Startups Returning 30x to Crowdfunders THE TOP 5 CROWDFUNDING RETURNS ON SEEDRS R Europe (formerly Seedrs) is a leading crowdfunding platform that allows individuals to invest in early-stage businesses and startups. It's a high risk, high reward type of investing where most investments will fail. However there is the opportunity for HUGE returns if you pick the right companies. If you had invested £1,000 in one of the top 5 companies this is what it would be worth today: 🚀 LandTech > £78,420 🚀 Revolut > £74,230 🚀 LANDBAY > £34,400 🚀 OfficeRnD > £32,370 🚀 Oddbox > £31,870 However, for every company that sees success like this there is likely dozens more that returned nothing. According to Seedrs data the more investments an investor makes the better their returns are. On average those who have made 10+ investments have seen their investments grow by 6-7% year over year. However, much like VC, the real money is made at the outliers: 🔥 The top 25% of investors have seen their investments increase by an average of 34% year over year 🔥 The top 10% have seen it increase 63% year over year These are great returns however, the difficulty in investing in early stage startups is getting your cash out again. Only 56 startups that have raised on Seedrs have gone on to exit, which means the only other option is selling secondaries. This is obviously NOT investment advice. All data is taken from a public report published by R Europe (formerly Seedrs).

Thank you, Josipa Majic Predin, for writing a great article and sharing the fantastic #regulationcrowdfunding story of Revolut in Forbes. As you described: "The Numbers That Stunned the Industry The average investment during this crowdfunding round was £2,152. At the time, it may have seemed like a significant amount to risk on an unproven startup. Fast forward to 2023, and those same shares are now estimated to be worth around £860,000, based on Revolut's latest valuation of $33 billion in 2021 and now $45 billion in 2024." "The Revolut crowdfunding campaign 2016 will likely be remembered as a watershed moment in the history of startup investing. It has proven that with the right opportunity and timing, retail investors can achieve returns that rival or surpass those of professional venture capitalists." I have been saying this since the moment it was signed into law, and now we have more proof from Revolut. #equitycrowdfunding #smallbusinesess #venturecapital #startups https://lnkd.in/gQcvPTWx
