Sydney, the thought that the fireworks and other major events on the Sydney calendar could be in jeopardy is truly alarming. This is why the NSW Government needs to hasten slowly in its consideration of Glebe Island’s future Any impact for major events in our wonderful city demonstrates why it is so important for Sydney to retain this remaining part of its working harbour. Glebe Island is vital. It contributes to many economic activities that are crucial to our city’s success including the New Year’s Eve Fireworks, Australia Day, VIVID, Sail GP and Opera on the Harbour. Sydney is proud to be known as Australia’s big events capital and, apart from the direct economic benefit, the value of the ‘feel good’ factor from these major events is immeasurable. It is these major events and activities that generates the positive vibe that makes our city the great place to live, work and play. If Glebe Island is unavailable, then these events will struggle to survive. Sydney could lose out big time. Access to Glebe Island for preparing events is vital for the events sector and overall, for Sydney’s economy, tourism and culture.
