Alex Medler brings 32 years of experience advocating for education to the BVSD Board of Education. His professional path has been diverse, spanning roles in research, policy development, and advocacy. Notably, he played a pivotal role in shaping charter school policies - working closely with state and federal agencies to ensure that all children have access to quality education regardless of their background. “I came to education policy as a way to advance social justice,” expressed Medler. “For me, it's part of an effort to ensure that everyone feels empowered to control what they do with their life and that they have the options to be successful.” Read more: https://trst.in/babLBN

The year was 2019, and various education-focused community organizations were hard at work proposing a game-changing educational reform called the Student Success Act to Oregon's Legislature. When it came time to work closely with education advocacy groups, community organizations, and lawmakers to build public support and awareness, we didn't hesitate. Our team supported the effort to champion the Student Success Act, building consensus and relationships between business and labor. And the results speak for themselves: ➡️ Through collaboration and countless hours negotiating and working on the concept, Oregon passed this landmark legislation, which is expected to invest approximately $2.35 billion in Oregon education every two years. #politicalcampaigns #oregonpolitics #campaignstrategy

Owner and Founder of Round Table Advocacy - A professional Special Education Advocate with over a decade of experience
With school now in full swing, I am getting calls from parents who have submitted a formal request to have their child evaluated for special education eligibility. Often, the question is "Why haven't I heard back?". There is a specific, 90-day, time limit that the school/district is given to respond to you and to complete the evaluation of your child. Make sure you make your request in writing, and that you ask the school/district to confirm their receipt of your request, again, in writing. Keep a record of this, and follow up with the school/district to understand progress. Let them know that you understand your rights and that they have 90 days to respond to you and evaluate your child. Watch this video for details, and more information on your rights in this process. If you are concerned about the reaction time of your child's school to your request, please give me a call so we can discuss your rights and how you may respond to any delay.
