The Stage: Where Skills Come Alive 🎭 Yesterday, I had the privilege of performing in the Odia play "ଅଟଳ ଟଳମଳ" (Atal Talmal), taking on the role of a policeman. Theatre has always been more than just an art form to me—it's a powerful medium that brings stories to life and helps us connect with emotions, perspectives, and people in profound ways. Here are a few skills in action that theatre has taught me, and how they add value to both personal and professional growth: 🔹 Communication: Expressing emotions, thoughts, and ideas clearly is key in acting—and in real life. It’s about speaking, listening, and connecting. 🔹 Adaptability: Just like on stage, life throws improvisations our way. Theatre trains you to think on your feet and handle unpredictability. 🔹 Teamwork: A successful performance relies on collaboration. Every role, no matter how big or small, contributes to the bigger picture—a lesson I carry off-stage too. 🔹 Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and portraying a character’s emotions enhances empathy, making it easier to connect with others. 🔹 Confidence: Facing a live audience teaches you poise and self-assurance, traits invaluable in any profession. Theatre is a mirror to society, and yesterday’s performance was an incredible reminder of how creativity can reflect resilience, challenges, and the human spirit. Grateful to my team, the audience, and this beautiful journey of storytelling. Here's a glimpse from last night’s play—bringing the character of a committed policeman to life. What passions fuel your skills? Let’s connect and discuss! #TheatreLife #Storytelling #SkillsInAction #OdiaPlay #PersonalGrowth #Creativity

“We must all do theatre, to find out who we are, and to discover who we could become.” – Augusto Boal I attended Navgati’s two-day Theatre in Facilitation Workshop in the last week of May. As someone who loves to express herself through dance and drama, I was intrigued by the idea of applying theatre techniques in my professional role as a facilitator. Fifteen participants, predominantly from the Learning & Development and HR communities, attended the workshop. Meghna Singhee, our calm and composed facilitator, kickstarted the program by dispelling myths about theatre and clarifying the scope of the program. We were introduced to the concepts of sociometry and role interviews and explored their application in training programs. The program’s energetic co-facilitator, Rashmi Ravikumar, explained the power of improv and image theatre in enabling expression of thoughts and ideas through body movements. Thought-provoking discussions with fellow participants and insightful Q&A sessions with facilitators kept our grey cells ticking throughout the two days. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the workshop. Along with the extensive list of interesting theatre games (I am yet to read the complete handbook!), the debrief questions after each activity have been my biggest takeaway. I realized that asking the right question to the right person at the right time could act as a catalyst for behavioral change. Thank you, facilitators and co-participants, for a memorable learning experience. Note: The last picture is our response to how we perceive ourselves in the garden of learning. What an innovative way to share our opinion as we click a group photo! #theatre #facilitationworkshop #learningleaders

What is my superpower? Besides being 'Super Dad' (self-anointed and proudly owned!), one of them is theatre - the kind that values collaboration, self-organization, and empowers everyone involved. The kind of theatre that marries imagination with expression, where rehearsals are moments of deep presence, preparing for the unexpected and organic to emerge. Anything can happen... I’m no star director or performer, but years in theatre devising and cultural immersions have reshaped my worldview in unexpected and wonderful ways. My facilitation approach in organisational spaces is deeply rooted in these expansive experinces of theatre-making. Theatre has taught me to shed inhibitions, connect mind and body, and grant permission, to myself and my collaborators, while guiding others in creative exploration beyond the stage. Curious to get a taste of this? Join me and Tarryn Lee for a one-day '#TheatreSprint' in Linden, #Johannesburg on October 5th, 2024. No theatre experience is needed. If you’re a coach, leader, facilitator, or creatively curious, join us to uncover new layers of your creative self and explore self-expression in fresh, embodied, and unexpected ways. What You’ll Experience: 🎭 Play with your thinking, broaden perspectives, and build adaptability through fun, engaging methods. 🎭 Dive into theatre-making to inspire and enrich your work with artistic creativity. 🎭 Learn innovative ways to engage your body in creative work and collaboration. 🎭 Explore devised-theatre methodologies to create and perform. 🎭 Reflect on how to practice and strategically apply embodiment in your creative work. I realised something a few years ago Being on stage feels like home to me. What you might not know is that I attended theatre school throughout my childhood until I was 18. Singing, dancing, acting - performing multiple times a year. I even studied Performing Arts (yes, Bertolt Brecht was VERY challenging). I travelled the country for street dance competitions. Performing was in my DNA. Fast forward to my second year in sales, and I found myself standing on a different kind of stage. I had just won Salesperson of the Year for my division and was asked to present my Partner Strategy to a large crowd. Was I nervous? Not really. But I was curious to see how it would go. What I saw was connection. People were smiling, laughing, and fully engaged. It felt natural - like they were seeing a different side of me. Since then, I’ve run hundreds of workshops and talks both in-person and virtual. Every single time, it fills my cup. And here’s what I’ve learned: → Presenting isn’t just about what you say. It’s about the energy you bring. → People don’t want perfection - they want authenticity. → When you’re passionate about your message, it shines through. Whether it’s a stage, a boardroom, or a Zoom room, sharing ideas and connecting with people is where I thrive. And it’s a reminder that sometimes, the skills we develop in unexpected places (like theatre school!) can shape how we show up in our professional lives. What about you? Have you had a moment where your past experiences unexpectedly gave you an edge in your career? Let’s share stories!👇🏾 P.S. If you’ve ever studied Brecht, you know the struggle is real. 😅

The Theatre of Business: A Masterclass in Storytelling Imagine stepping onto a stage, the spotlight is on you, and the audience is waiting with bated breath. This is theatre. But isn't it also business? In theatre, the script is your strategy. Actors are your team, bringing the script to life. The audience? Your customers, who need to be captivated and engaged. Rehearsals? That’s your preparation, refining your pitch, and perfecting your approach. Just like in a play, understanding your audience is crucial. Authenticity shines through, whether on stage or in a meeting. The most memorable performances are those that touch our hearts, just like the best business interactions. Every day, I step onto the stage of business, drawing from my passion for theatre to create narratives that connect, inspire, and drive results. Because at the end of the day, whether in the spotlight or the boardroom, it's all about telling a story that resonates. Here's to the art of business storytelling, where passion meets profession, and every act is an opportunity to create something unforgettable. #Theatre #Business #Storytelling #tempt

As part of #CaptioningAwarenessWeek, we're sharing this video that explains a bit more about captions and how they can assist people to make their theatre experience more enjoyable! ✨ Theatre captions are similar to television subtitles and give deaf, deafened or hard-of-hearing audiences access to live performance. In captioning, the words appear on a screen above the stage at the same time as they are sung or spoken by the actors on it. You will also see the name of the character who is speaking and a description of any sound effects. Captioning can also be a really helpful tool for people to follow a story better, such as where English may not be someone's first language, or where dialogue can be fast-paced or more complicated, such as with Shakespeare plays! ➡️ Click this link to find our list of upcoming accessible performances, with captioned performances displaying the 'CAP' icon: https://lnkd.in/eWrtm3YB 🎥 Warehouse Digital
