🎭 As a Theatre Artist, People usually ask me that “why are you doing theatre”? What does it teaches you? It's just a time waste, start focusing on your degree and what not. Today I'll answer all the questions for those people. As I'm looking for opportunities in corporate field, I'll let you know what theatre teaches you and it helps you to tackle the problems of that field. Being a part of theatre teaches valuable skills that are not only helpful for our overall growth but it helps you to be in the corporate world also, let me tell you how: 1. Teamwork: Just like in theatre, businesses thrive when people work together. I learned how to listen, compromise, and achieve common goals with my team. 2. Quick Thinking: Theatre is full of surprises, so I got good at thinking on my feet and adapting to new situations. That comes in handy when dealing with fast-paced corporate environments. 3. Understanding Others: Playing different characters helped me understand different perspectives and emotions. This empathy is crucial for working well with clients, colleagues, and customers. 4. Bouncing Back: Theatre taught me to handle rejection and failure gracefully. In business, things don't always go as planned, but I've learned to bounce back and keep pushing forward. 5. Out-of-the-Box Thinking: Creativity is the heart of theatre. I've learned to come up with innovative solutions to problems, a skill that's highly valued in the corporate world for tackling challenges in unique ways. Overall, my journey in theatre has been a transformative experience, shaping not only my artistic craft but also my approach to life and work.In a nutshell, theatre has equipped me with skills that are essential for success in the corporate field, making me a more adaptable, empathetic, and creative team player. #TheatreLife #LifeLessons #ArtisticJourney 🎬✨

Theatre & Learning and development Last evening, my theatre group and I (I am a practising and performing theatre actor as a part time hobby) put up a play - a set of monologues based on the 9 emotions or the Indian Navarasas. The roles I played were completely contrary to who I am as a person. I had to experience fear and emote it on stage, but not in the way I normally experience it; rather I had to play it how an introverted, graceful and much older person would experience and portray it. I had to experience joy and emote it on stage as someone who was completely socially awkward. To say it was a challenge is an understatement. But it was extremely fulfilling. Theatre, just like all powerful art forms do, has taught me empathy, being comfortable in my own skin, new perspectives, creative style, adaptability, courage, reading a room, learning to take feedback with grace, communicating with ease, non verbal communication, leadership, teamwork, flexibility, spontaneity etc. - like nothing else ever has before. Being an L&OD professional, I often try to bring in theatre techniques to teaching concepts of communication, empathy, trust, leadership etc. I am no expert, and I am aware that there are so many more things being done by more qualified experts in this space. I thought I would reach out to my LinkedIn family to know more from anyone working in this space and learn about what else you do. Please do DM if you have successfully taught L&D topics using theatre techniques. I would be grateful to have a chat and explore. Ps: Picture is of me with my favourite transformer; just to bring some joy to this post exploring personal transformations :) #Mondaymusings #learninganddevelopment #leadership #teamwork #theatre #creativity

Art on the Move 🎭 #1 The Power of Repetition in Theatre Who sits still in a theatre class? And why should anyone? Theatre is an art that moves. It moves your body, emotions, thoughts, and the space around you. To keep my theatre classes dynamic, I begin each session with a game. These games focus on various aspects of communication—both verbal and non-verbal—emotions, speech, language, and memory. A few of my favorites are the "passing on emotion", “Building up the tower of names of fruits/actors/ vehicles, and “Spider web of names” to focus on the memory. I often hear school drama teachers complain about students not memorizing their lines. But why force memorization when you can focus on understanding the story and teach them to improvise? Understanding the story's requirements can be just as effective. However, memorizing lines is still important to be prepared for the unexpected, such as when a main actor falls ill. To help students get the hang of memorizing lines, I use a simple yet effective game that employs the repetition technique. Benefits of the Repetition Technique The repetition technique helps student actors connect with each other. By spontaneously repeating lines, they get their head and heart into the moment. This technique not only encodes information into memory but also helps actors structure the emotions they need to deliver. This is one of the reasons why we have rehearsals. Repetition aids in future recall. Personally, I love recalling and singing the Gujarati poems I learned in my early years. In theatre classes, repetition ensures that students do not need to delve deeply into emotional memory every time to deliver their best performance. Once they are familiar with an expression, they can rely on memorization rather than constantly tapping into emotional memory. Though some may prefer emotional memory techniques, I find that repetition and memorization are more practical and reliable for young actors. Incorporating repetition techniques in theatre classes not only enhances memorization but also fosters a deeper connection between actors. So, let’s keep the art of theatre moving! I had the pleasure of attending a workshop with Datta Patil and Sachin Shinde on September 23, 2024. Their extensive experience in writing and directing theatre truly inspired us all. The session began with Sachin guiding us through a few body relaxation exercises. Initially, I found myself puzzled about how this related to theatre and the purpose of these exercises in a workshop. Afterward, we played an engaging game that involved pairs exploring the area, with one partner blindfolded. The twist was that the sighted individual could only guide their partner through touch, without using any verbal cues. It was exhilarating! By the midpoint of the workshop, I began to realize just how crucial it is for a theatre artist to possess control over their body. Directing a play or telling a story ultimately starts with our breath, our physical presence, and our thoughts—it was a revelation. Next, we closed our eyes for a different activity in which we were invited to envision our dream destination, our ideal companion, and the most sorrowful moment in our lives. As they played a haunting melody in the background, we were drawn deeper into our reflections. Many participants shared their thoughts, and it felt as though we were all unveiling the struggles that had shaped us, the energy we had mustered to arrive at who we are today. As a budding theatre artist, it gave me goosebumps to realize that despite everything we've endured, the artist within us endures and thrives. We find ways to create our stories, shaping them in ways that resonate with others. Datta Patil shared his wealth of experience, and while I expected him to teach us explicit techniques for writing or directing, he simply advised, "Write what you want, whenever you want." You'll discover your own unique style. Sachin echoed this sentiment while leading the session, encouraging us to "act however you wish, and don't overthink it." Hearing these two remarkable individuals emphasize the importance of freedom in theatre, of releasing our mental constraints, had a profound impact on me. Theatre is not just enjoyable; it's become an addiction for me. Learning these foundational aspects of theatre has deepened my passion for the art. I can’t imagine ever giving up on writing and acting. #writing #acting #workshop #datta_patil #sachin_shinde #ihc #altamas_hall #theatre #creator

What is my superpower? Besides being 'Super Dad' (self-anointed and proudly owned!), one of them is theatre - the kind that values collaboration, self-organization, and empowers everyone involved. The kind of theatre that marries imagination with expression, where rehearsals are moments of deep presence, preparing for the unexpected and organic to emerge. Anything can happen... I’m no star director or performer, but years in theatre devising and cultural immersions have reshaped my worldview in unexpected and wonderful ways. My facilitation approach in organisational spaces is deeply rooted in these expansive experinces of theatre-making. Theatre has taught me to shed inhibitions, connect mind and body, and grant permission, to myself and my collaborators, while guiding others in creative exploration beyond the stage. Curious to get a taste of this? Join me and Tarryn Lee for a one-day '#TheatreSprint' in Linden, #Johannesburg on October 5th, 2024. No theatre experience is needed. If you’re a coach, leader, facilitator, or creatively curious, join us to uncover new layers of your creative self and explore self-expression in fresh, embodied, and unexpected ways. What You’ll Experience: 🎭 Play with your thinking, broaden perspectives, and build adaptability through fun, engaging methods. 🎭 Dive into theatre-making to inspire and enrich your work with artistic creativity. 🎭 Learn innovative ways to engage your body in creative work and collaboration. 🎭 Explore devised-theatre methodologies to create and perform. 🎭 Reflect on how to practice and strategically apply embodiment in your creative work. "Making theatre means to live enchantments…to invent mirrors of the world as we know it, or of worlds as dissimilar from reality as a fantastic delirium.” —Eugenio Barba Curious? Theatre provides numerous avenues for releasing emotional tension, from acting and improvisation to writing and directing. By engaging with the art form, individuals can explore and express their emotions, gain new perspectives, and experience a sense of emotional release and catharsis. Whether through formal drama therapy or informal participation in theatrical activities, theatre can be a powerful tool for emotional healing and personal growth. Here's one of the techniques we use during our workshop. Techniques for Releasing Emotional Tension through Theatre Breathing Exercises: Before performances, actors often engage in deep breathing exercises to relax and prepare emotionally. Physical Warm-Ups: Movement and stretching can help release physical tension and prepare the body for expressive work. Vocal Exercises: Vocal warm-ups can help actors free their voices, enabling them to express emotions more fully. Visualization: Actors might use visualization techniques to connect with their characters’ emotions and experiences. Journaling: Keeping a journal of their experiences and emotions related to their performances can help actors process their feelings. #cathartic #theatretherapy #healyourinnerchild #transformationaltheatrecoach #theatre #therapy #theatreofthefuture #theatreoftommorrow #digitaltheatre #digitaltransformation #theatre #therapy

The Stage: Where Skills Come Alive 🎭 Yesterday, I had the privilege of performing in the Odia play "ଅଟଳ ଟଳମଳ" (Atal Talmal), taking on the role of a policeman. Theatre has always been more than just an art form to me—it's a powerful medium that brings stories to life and helps us connect with emotions, perspectives, and people in profound ways. Here are a few skills in action that theatre has taught me, and how they add value to both personal and professional growth: 🔹 Communication: Expressing emotions, thoughts, and ideas clearly is key in acting—and in real life. It’s about speaking, listening, and connecting. 🔹 Adaptability: Just like on stage, life throws improvisations our way. Theatre trains you to think on your feet and handle unpredictability. 🔹 Teamwork: A successful performance relies on collaboration. Every role, no matter how big or small, contributes to the bigger picture—a lesson I carry off-stage too. 🔹 Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and portraying a character’s emotions enhances empathy, making it easier to connect with others. 🔹 Confidence: Facing a live audience teaches you poise and self-assurance, traits invaluable in any profession. Theatre is a mirror to society, and yesterday’s performance was an incredible reminder of how creativity can reflect resilience, challenges, and the human spirit. Grateful to my team, the audience, and this beautiful journey of storytelling. Here's a glimpse from last night’s play—bringing the character of a committed policeman to life. What passions fuel your skills? Let’s connect and discuss! #TheatreLife #Storytelling #SkillsInAction #OdiaPlay #PersonalGrowth #Creativity

We had a BLAST at the South Bend Civic Theatre 80's prom! While I only had a lead role in one high school musical, when I think back on the impact my short time on stage had on my life, I am reminded of the many important lessons learned! - 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲: The theatre provided a space for exploration and self-expression, allowing me to delve into a diverse character, ultimately deepening my understanding of myself and others. - 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Collaborating with directors, stage crew, and cast members taught me the essence of teamwork and leadership, essential qualities in both personal and professional worlds. - 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 & 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Theatre is a playground for creativity and innovation, constantly pushing boundaries and shaking up conventional thinking. It's where I was challenged to think outside the box, and those skills have seeped into every corner of my life. - 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 & 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Whether captivating an audience on stage or delivering a pitch in the boardroom, theatre honed my communication and presentation skills, empowering me to convey ideas with authenticity, confidence and clarity. - 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: From last-minute script changes to unforeseen challenges during performances, theatre taught me the importance of adaptability and resilience, crucial traits for navigating life's twists and turns. "If you can't enjoy it, endure it" Theatre arts students especially from my institution will be familiar with this quote. This quote by our Theatre manager as we call him uncle Steve. _ Uncle Steve will always say to us "The journey to good life is never easy, it's either you enjoy the process or endure it to the end" _ When you quit you know what happens.... From the pre production to the production down to the post production stage of a theatrical performance, everything has to be intact and lively, you don't drop the energy. It's not easy at all being a Thespian, from going to lectures with other students down to sleeping at the auditorium day by day rehearsing. _ All these processes built and shaped me as a person, that's why you can hardly find a Thespian who's lazy, might be quiet and sluggish but that ability to endure the process is always there. _ Life itself is not easy brethren, it's way more than a theatrical production, do not be a spectator of your own life. Be the actor Take Incharge Give people the best you can offer Always enjoy every process of pain and struggle. _ I will tell you that, the production that takes time with so many difficulties which does not look like a promising one always tend to wow the audience. Please enjoy the process My favorite quote lately __"Everyone has a story to tell, give yours a happy ending" Have a great day I am Agbocheni Lucky Your personal development coach #motivation#selfdiscipline#inspiration
