MTA Partner Carol Phillips was called upon by the House of Commons to discuss Advancements in Home Building Technologies, alongside David Moses from Moses Structural Engineers Inc. Speaking in front of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills, and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (HUMA) with Robert J. Morrissey, Liberal Party Chair presiding, Carol highlighted the transformative potential of mass timber to address pertinent challenges currently faced in the building industry across Canada, particularly regarding environmental sustainability, technological innovation, and the housing crisis. Her testimony underlined the difficulties faced widely by architects, engineers, manufacturers, and other professionals in this sector who are pushing for a more streamlined and efficient adoption of timber as a safe, viable, and universally accepted structural option for large-scale projects. “Mass timber’s benefits resonate with a broad spectrum of priorities – providing a pathway to meet climate and environmental goals, while supporting Canadian-made industrial solutions that strengthen our economy. It is aligned with job creation, worker safety, social equity, and it is a Canadian solution that is rooted in cross provincial leadership.” – Carol Phillips, Moriyama Teshima Architects Learn more about this compelling meeting which took place in October by clicking the link below: https://lnkd.in/gkAxqTqF #moriyamateshima #masstimber #masstimberconstruction #construction #sustainable #sustainability #sustainablearchitecture #sustainableconstruction #sustainablematerial #buildingmaterial #woodbuilding #wood #forestry #engineering #masstimberbuilding #building #buildingproject #architecture #masstimberarchitecture #architect #canadianarchitecture #torontoarchitecture #canadianforestry #houseofcommons #buildingtechnologies #canada #mtarch

Engaging a project arborist from the start of a development ensures that the site's natural assets, especially trees, are integrated into the architectural vision. Following AS 4970-2009 best practices, arborists help retain trees within the site plan, offering crucial reports like preliminary assessments, arboricultural impact assessments, and tree protection plans. This approach effectively preserves the site's best assets, minimises construction impacts, and ensures compliance with local and national legislation, which is crucial for sustainable urban development. These elements are also critical to a successful development. Here is a diagram of the process: https://lnkd.in/gV2wzViK

I'm sure there will be many post fire analyses... and design standard updates. Many of those that didn't burn are not exactly affordable housing; that said, lower cost measures (besides NOT being near wildland interface, though winds and embers made structure to structure burns more of the problem) will be especially helpful to promote. https://lnkd.in/ekg8vqkN

How many 1100ltr bins worth of waste can this URS hold? The answer is up to 5 😱 These bins are revolutionising areas of high population like flat blocks, high streets and more. Why? Because they can hold so much waste, can be monitored remotely, can have access limited, look so much better than 5 bins and save a lot of space. We are offering #architects #planners #urbandesigners #councils #localauthorities the chance to find out more, get in touch and let us talk you through all the #benefits of using URS's in your next #project or #regeneration Contact us here>> https://lnkd.in/devg2QQQ #revolutionisewastemanagement #wastemanagement #recyclingequipment #undergroundbins #bins #waste #rubbish #redevelopments #highstreets #flatblocks #newdesign

ECOncrete is part of Manhattan's groundbreaking coastal resilience - the East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) project isn't just changing the waterfront - it's revolutionizing how we think about urban flood protection. Our nature-inclusive marine infrastructure will create vital intertidal habitats in the East River, in the aim to protect both cities and marine ecosystems. The project, spanning 2.4 miles of coastline, will safeguard over 110,000 New Yorkers while fostering marine life. This is the future of coastal defense - where ecology meets engineering. Read more about this WEDG-Verified project that's setting new standards for resilient waterfront design. https://lnkd.in/e3mgJ4aY Images: Left: ECOncrete Pile Protection and Pocket Tiles precast in standard procedure applying low carbon concrete mix with ECO P1-TP Admix and ECOncrete molds and surface treatment, await installation for ESCR at Roman Stone. Today's objective: Clearing out and constructing a brick pier. 🧱 With a shared wall with the neighbour , which is still a council property currently empty, it's the perfect timing for the renovation! Besides the main goal, another important reason is that there's an old landfill site just half a mile away, so we need to remove this structure promptly. #Brickie #Bricklaying #Construction #PropertyRenovation #RenovationGoals #SustainableDevelopment #planning #RenovationGoals #TWMHDevelopments #ProjectManagement
