We are VIBE-ing! 🏳️🌈 After three intense days of work with GROWNi and KRAS, we are now a bit more clever about what Mentoring means beyond our own experience 🔎 We are grateful to feel so much interest from mentors and, especially, young people who are ready to become mentees (and hopefully mentors too!) 🌱 In order to make our research as representative and accurate as possible, we complemented our efforts by inviting mentoring-enthusiasts to interview each other, and take a stake in creating strong insights 🙌 So far, these are some tip-of-the-iceberg findings: . Most mentors don't receive any training or education to fulfill their role. They just become mentors either out of a successful personal experience as mentees, or due to their personality type (extroverted, pedagogical, etc.) 📚 . Most young people in our sample don't use any specific digital medium to find their mentors. Instead, their resort to their network or school to find one 🔦 . The number one fear among people in our sample is not to know how to prepare for a mentoring session, and honor the time of the mentor ✔️ . Most young people in our sample look forward to connecting on a personal level with their mentor, instead of just prioritizing their knowledge and credentials 🤝 This is just the beginning! We will keep sharing deeper insights as we keep diving into this fantastic world 🤿

𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙥 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙏𝙮𝙥𝙚𝙨: Group mentoring fosters a culture of different viewpoints, cooperative involvement, and accelerated personal and professional development. Instead of meeting in pairs as in traditional one-on-one mentoring, mentors and mentees meet in groups. In a group setting that encourages the mentees to exchange experiences, information, and support, one or more mentors offer direction, encouragement, and advise. Programs for group mentoring can be scaled to mentor many people at once because of this. The social environment promotes involvement and lessens feelings of loneliness. Additionally, it produces greater results for mentees, including elevated performance, improved social and professional abilities, and increased self-esteem. It also gives mentees access to networking opportunities and a peer support system that continues after the official mentoring program ends.

National Mentoring Month is an annual campaign celebrated in January, dedicated to raising awareness about the power and impact of mentoring. It's a time to recognise and honour the contributions of mentors while encouraging individuals to become mentors themselves. To be fair this is something our cousins across the pond highlight for a month rather than the day we Brits do in October…but as someone who has been on the receiving end of a good mentor and hopefully helped others by acting as a mentor I’d go so far as to say if you haven’t experienced it in your working life, you are missing a trick. Having worked with people both in the franchise and sign sector I’d certainly say having the ability to talk in confidence with an impartial individual has both been enlightening and refreshing, a mentor won’t have all the answers but will challenge you, act as a sounding board and sometimes even act as your compass (running a business isn’t always simple and external factors can make you lose focus - your mentor doesn’t have those distractions and can help you stay on track) I’m certainly not going to mention those that I’ve mentored over the last 5 years (part of being a mentor is building trust and confidentiality is a huge part of that) but I have found that in my role at ISA-UK I often get calls and am asked to be a sounding board, mentoring in bitesize chuncks if you like. So my message is, don’t look at being mentored as a weakness on your part, it’s often the stepping stone to take you and your business on to the next level and to be fair we all need a sanity check from time to time. I’m here if anyone wants any pointers or guidance on finding the right mentor for you even if that’s just to share my own experiences. ***PS. 🌳 Introducing FAFO Mentorship 🌳 As a proud Generation Xer, I've always lived by the motto "fuck around and find out." It’s not just a catchy phrase—it’s a way of life that has shaped who I am today. This approach has driven me to take risks, learn from my mistakes, and ultimately grow stronger and more resilient. And I know I’m not alone. Many of us from Gen X have navigated life with this same spirit, embracing challenges and forging our own paths. That's why I’m thrilled to announce the launch of FAFO Mentorship—a program built on the very principles that have guided me throughout my life. FAFO stands for Fearless Exploration, Authenticity, Facilitate, and Ownership—values that are at the core of who we are as a generation. Expect to see posts every Tuesday and Thursday on LinkedIn, where I'll dive deep into mentorship, sharing insights, tips, and stories that will empower you to take charge of your journey. And for those of you who love mentorship as much as I do, I’m dedicating one full week every month to FARFO, where we’ll explore these topics in greater depth. I’m excited to dig deeper into mentorship and see where this adventure takes us! If you’re looking for guidance, inspiration, or just a community of like-minded individuals ready to explore the unknown, FARFO Mentorship is here for you. Let’s connect, learn, and grow together! If there’s anything I can do to be of service to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Here’s to the journey ahead! 🚀

Product Development Executive; Author, Mentorship Unlocked; Board member; Public Speaker; CEO and Founder, The Mentor Method (Acquired)
As we kick off the New Year and celebrate National Mentoring Month, you might have set a goal to meet great mentors and are eager to begin connecting with potential matches. But do you know what skills and focus areas you want to develop with them? An essential first step is understanding the specific skills and areas you want to develop with their guidance. To assist with this, I recommend this simple yet effective exercise for gaining clarity on the skills and focus areas you need to bridge the gap between your current position and where you want to be in the next 6 to 12 months. This exercise involves reflecting on your current unique strengths and qualities, as well as identifying the additional skills, strengths, and attributes you'll need to evolve into your future self. If you've been feeling uncertain about what to focus on with a mentor, this exercise can demystify that, provide clarity, and demonstrate to potential mentors that you're ready to learn. Future You will undoubtedly thank you for taking this step.
