No 'bollox' SME marketing strategy, mentoring & accountability | Keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, lecturer | The Chief Bolloxologist®
I’m a bit of a fangirl of the SURREAL marketing team because they nail it. Every time. (Well done guys) 🙏 You might not be their ideal customer so these ads may not appeal to you, and that’s ok… and that’s not the point. The point is that we need to CONNECT with our audience. So what can you take from this campaign to level up your marketing too? Be timely - Exam result dates are known well in advance, so the team will have been planning this for a while. The flip side is that sometimes you need to be responsive to a trend.. whether for or against! Take a stand. Be prepared for both. Humour - I love the self deprecation. 47th cereal company… Not a giant, not the same as the rest, and not taking themselves too seriously (although to do this stuff consistently, they’ll be taking their marketing and branding seriously). Even ‘serious’ companies can harness humour and it won’t detract from their professionalism. Infact it’ll probably make them stand out in a crowded and clouded market. Know your audience - ever wondered why we need to know about oxbow lakes, and other things we had to know for our GCSEs and haven’t used since?! Nostalgia can be a great way to make an emotional connection, so looking back (not in anger😉) really works, and the use of ‘finally’ really underpins all of this. It’s like a massive eye roll… which in itself will appeal to some for its sheer cheek! Know your audience #2 - some audience groups are focused on their health (and others aspire to so will buy into health messages), so peppering content with health creds reinforces the connection… but they’re not smacking us around the face with the health stuff. Just quietly and confidently leaving it there. Do the same. Know what your audience feels passionately about and play into it. Know your audience #3 - audiences mostly don’t care about what WE want to tell them. (Only my mum cares about my achievements) so make an emotional connection first, then add in those elements like, in this case, protein vs sugar. Brand consistency - their visuals are strong and consistent. You could probably identify a SURREAL advert if it had no logo on it. That’s good branding. Just a few thoughts. What are you going to do??
FINALLY USING OUR GCSEs We spent 5 years learning about oxbow lakes and right-angle triangles, only to end up working for the UK's 47th largest cereal company. So, in honour of GCSE results day, we've decided to finally put our, ahem, "knowledge" to good use, and make some cereal adverts using everything we learnt. If only our teachers could see us now, they'd probably say "you've turned out even worse than expected, and we had low expectations to begin with".

A snapshot of how brilliant my job is .
Service with a smile! Chemistry, Careers, and Cooking: The Education Business Partnership Cornwall Council, funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry, aims to introduce young people to the diverse world of chemistry careers. Recently, pupils at Liskeard School & Community College enjoyed a culinary master class led by Mark Lewin from Cornwall Hospitality Collective and Truro and Penwith College alongside the manager of Tallend Bay Hotel, Jack. During the session, the pupils saw chemistry in action through a cooking demonstration by Mark Lewin and experienced first-class dining under the guidance of Jack. This immersive experience provided valuable insights into the hospitality industry, offering students a glimpse into potential future career opportunities. It was truly a five-star learning experience. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gNtqwyMF #cornwallEBP

A recent survey by School Food Matters and Teacher Tapp reveals a stark reality: over a third of teachers report that hunger is impacting their pupils' ability to learn, with this figure soaring to 63% in deprived areas. Shockingly, schools are using their own budgets to provide meals, as 38% of senior leaders report, rising to 51% in the poorest regions. This issue resonates deeply with our work at Value Match, where we recently reprocured catering provision for a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) to address similar challenges. Through our procurement, we achieved: - 29% savings over a 5-year contract, enabling reinvestment in breakfast clubs - Standardised healthy menus across 11 schools, ensuring consistent access to nutritious meals - Apprenticeship opportunities, enhancing #education investment through supplier collaboration Our #procurement also aimed to achieve the Bronze Soil Association Accreditation, underscoring our commitment to sustainable and healthy food standards. The success of this case study highlights the tangible benefits of investing in #school meal programs. As the survey underscores, expanding access to free school meals is not just a social imperative but a crucial investment in our children's education and future. Let's advocate for policies that ensure every child has the nutrition they need to thrive. #MultiAcademyTrust #Procurement

Food Safety Expert in Risk Assessment, Management & Regulatory Compliance | Founder, DFK for Safe Food Environment | Lecturer & Researcher | Author | FSPCA Lead Instructor (IAVA & PCQI)
Exciting Times Ahead! As I step into March 1st, 2024, I can't help but reflect on the incredible journey that was 2023. It is only today that I close my 2023 chapter :) a year filled with growth, challenges (exhaustion!), and rewarding experiences. Only today, I bid adieu to the past year's endeavors, and would like to share some highlights that have shaped my professional growth and to thank all those who were part of this dynamic year: 📌 Finalized a comprehensive theoretical research for the FAO, analyzing food safety in the NENA region through the lens of risk analysis and the one health approach. 📌 Developed and delivered four enriching courses on crucial topics such as Allergen Management Control, Developing a Positive Food Safety Culture, EU Food Labeling, and FDA Food Labeling. These courses were a pivotal part of the USAID TRADE project, focusing on enhancing food exports in the Egyptian food industry. 📌 Prepared detailed guidance documents on key areas including food allergen management, fostering a positive food safety culture, and navigating EU and FDA food labeling regulations, all integral to the success of the TRADE project. 📌 Provided expert labeling review support services through DFK comprehesive services, minimizing the risk of product rejection and legal issues for numerous clients. 📌 Designed and currently lecturing the Food Safety Laws and Regulations Master course for the Master of Science program in 'Food Process and Product Engineering' (MSc FPPE), a collaborative effort between Stiftung Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover and Deutsches Institut für Lebensmitteltechnik. 📌 Delivered the PCQI course for a number of clients, with excellent feedback. Now, I'm excitingly diving back into my passion for delivering the amazing curriculum of the #PCQI course. But that's not all—stay tuned for the upcoming #BRC Food Safety Standard courses and more exciting ventures on the horizon. In the spirit of lifelong learning, and as Spring approaches and the sun peeks out more often in Hannover, though it's still a bit shy :), I'm thrilled for a fresh start as a learner with #MIT Professional Education, specifically the "Life Cycle Assessment: Quantifying Environmental Impacts" #lca . I'll be learning the tools and methodologies for assessing product impacts on the #environment, so excited to explore how I will transfer these insights to the food processing industry. Here's to embracing new challenges, seizing opportunities, and continuing to expand our knowledge horizons ! I am also open to new research and technical food safety calls! Get in touch if you look for experts support in #labelreviews for #compliance, science-backed advisory and training services to access EU and US markets, or guidance on #riskassessment for adequate #HACCP and Food Safety Plan #fsp. #pcqi #sustainability #foodsafety #foodprocessing #regulatorycompliance #riskmanagement #foodexport #foodtrade
