🚨 Concerns Over FCC's Proposed Changes to Multifamily Broadband Billing 🚨 As steadfast advocates for the multifamily industry, we are deeply concerned about the FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel's recent proposal to eliminate bulk billing arrangements for broadband services. While the intention is to increase competition and choice for tenants, this policy could have unintended negative consequences, potentially undermining the very fabric of our sector. Bulk billing provides numerous benefits, including competitive pricing and the ability to tailor services to community needs. Moreover, it does not, by its nature, prohibit other providers from serving these areas. The claim that bulk billing stifles competition is misguided. Removing it might lead to an unfortunate scenario where only major service providers dominate the market, ones who historically may not prioritize investment in infrastructure for underserved areas. This misinformed push towards eliminating bulk billing could dismantle established systems that, in fact, benefit tenants, especially in low-income and tribal lands where options are already limited. The rich competition and infrastructure investments fostered by the current model could be replaced by a monopoly that leads to higher prices and reduced service quality. Let's raise our voices to educate and inform policymakers about the realities of the multifamily broadband market. We must advocate for regulations that nurture an ecosystem supporting diverse, affordable, and high-quality broadband options for all tenants. We urge those involved in #MultifamilyHousing to join the conversation and protect the interests of our communities. We cannot afford to let an ill-advised policy threaten the strides we have made in connectivity equality. The government's new measures to increase the supply of affordable housing are a step in the right direction. The GST rebate on rentals, agreements with cities to expand housing construction, expedited permits, and access to an additional $20 billion dollars in lines of credit will help developers build more, build faster, and mitigate the housing crisis. Let's hope these measures make a significant impact in the housing market. #affordablehousing #housingcrisis #governmentmeasures
Here we grow again! Today at #SmartVMC, Justin Trudeau and Steven Del Duca announced an agreement between the federal government and the City of Vaughan to incentivize the construction of 40,000 new homes over the next decade and fast track construction on 1,700 new housing units over the next three years. #alabama Governor Kay Ivey has just announced $188 million in total funding for broadband and middle mile fiber expansions across the state. Nearly $10 million of this funding will be awarded to our amazing partners and customers, Central Alabama Electric Cooperative and Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. #CAEC and #CoosaValley, along with (10) other network operators across the state, will receive funding crucial to continued network expansions across the state. The state of #alabama has been an amazing case study for all facets of society's focus on #broadbandequality and #closingthedigitaldivide. From public-private partnerships, to #Coop, #utility and #municipal -led network ventures, to a statewide #middlemile fiber network, the successes of Alabama fiber network operators are extraordinary! Speaking to how this investment to Alabama's middle-mile network will sow dividends for both network operators across the state and broadband customers in the unserved or underserved areas of the state, Governor Ivey said, “These middle-mile projects will be extremely beneficial to our anchor institutions, and it puts us in a desirable situation where the ‘last mile’ projects that will supply broadband service to businesses and households are more economical and attainable.” Another huge win for the unserved and underserved populations of America! #ruraldevelopment #ruralbroadband #broadband #broadbandforall #digitaldivide #fiberbroadband #networkaccess #networkexpansion https://lnkd.in/ev4GENSJ
