She investigates a protein complex known as the exocyst, which in eukaryotes facilitates exocytosis. Yoonwoo hopes to learn more about the evolution of the exocyst's functions by examining Marchantia polymorpha.

During the early years of my degree, Pharmacology presented a significant challenge, and I often found it perplexing. Fortunately, with the invaluable support of my teachers and friends, I managed to conquer this hurdle. Now, as I enter my fourth year, I've come to recognize the pivotal role Pharmacology plays in every dimension of the Pharmacy, be it in clinical, hospital, industrial, or compounding settings. When I learned about Medsparkles' crash course designed to master Pharmacology, I saw it as the ideal opportunity to revisit and enhance my understanding of this subject. Having previously participated in a virtual internship with Medsparkles during the COVID era, I witnessed their dedicated approach to educating students. Recently, I presented on the effect of exogenous substances on tissue quality and remedies to avoid the production of poor quality slides, one of the four seminar presentations required for my one year internship program in FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTER, OWO, ONDO STATE.  Exploring the effects of exogenous substances on tissue quality is crucial in understanding how our environment and external factors can influence histological samples. By discussing remedies to prevent poor quality slides in histopathology, we enhance the accuracy of diagnostic procedures and research findings, ultimately improving patient care and scientific advancements in the medical field.

Euphoric to look back on my microbiology internship with NHLS and the invaluable lessons from my trainers! 🧪🔬 One bench that truly sparked my passion was Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing.🧬 Tasked with identifying Pneumocystis jiroveci, the causative agent of fungal pneumonia in immunocompromised patients, each test was a complex molecular challenge - but so rewarding when solved! 😅 The intricacy of extracting DNA, careful preparation of reagents, PCR instrument precision - each step had me on the edge of my seat. And that rush when fluorescent probes confirmed amplification of the cryptic organism’s DNA? Pure microscopy magic! 💫Through troubleshooting finicky assays, modifying protocols, and pushing the sensitivity limits of detection, I realized no career combines cutting-edge technology with patient care quite like medical microbiology. 🚀 My trainers’ wisdom to follow the science, lead with patience, and uplift my team is advice I’ll cherish forever. I am excited to announce that I have started a 6-week internship with the CICERONE program at the CNIC - Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research / Centro Nac. Investigaciones Cardiovasc. I will be working with the Cardiovascular Proteomics research group under the supervision of Jesús Vázquez. 🌟🧬 During this internship, I will be learning about the various advanced computational methods employed by the group, particularly focusing on the analysis of post-translational modifications in cardiovascular biology. The team is developing innovative “open search” algorithms that enable true hypothesis-free identification and quantification of any post-translational modification from high-throughput mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Furthermore, the group aims to extend the development of semi-supervised approaches for data interpretation and to integrate quantitative information in large-scale experiments. 🧪💻 These developments will be applied to investigate molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases, including subclinical atherosclerosis and other diseases related to vascular remodeling. LifeSci NYC, will invest $450 million to spur new research, $600 million to construct new labs and incubator spaces, and $20 million to build a pipeline of diverse talent. In doing so, the initiative aims to create 40,000 jobs, unlock 10 million square feet of wet- and dry-lab space, and spur the launch of 1,000 new companies. Additionally, in 2017, New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), which aims to encourage growth in New York City’s five boroughs, launched the LifeSci NYC Internship Program which prepares NYC undergraduate and graduate students for careers in the field, and builds a direct talent pipeline for the #lifesciences industry.  Needless to say, because of this, there are now several #biotech companies making their mark in The Big Apple, each with their own innovative ideas.
