Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a really interesting technology. Back when I were working in Banedanmark, we made an interesting study into useability and precision of GPR and ballast drillings. Drillings are naturally very accurate, but only in the specific spot where they have been made. GPR is relative to drilling inaccurate, at about 10% of the depth (10 cm at 1 m). However, it is also important to consider that GPR is a continuous signal, where drillings are discrete. So, how accurate are drillings mid-way between them? Our studies indicated that it were up to +/- 19 cm - double that of GPR and the double the formation layer's thickness. Furthermore, GPR (with some calibration drillings) are significantly cheaper than frequent drillings - in our experience up to 80% cheaper in total and also requiring less time and hence less capacity and track possession time. GPR fits well into linear asset management, where it can be combined with all other data to make complex decision support possible. I am a fan, and really curious to know why it is not used more. It would be great if anybody in my network has any thoughts on it.

InnoTrans 2024 Diary - Day 3 As part of the official AI Tour organized by the fair, I've just wrapped up the successful premiere of #MIRET-TunnelAI by ETS, another exciting presentation I had the pleasure of hosting at InnoTrans 2024! 🎉 MIRET-Tunnel AI is a software grounded in the #MIRET methodology, leveraging #artificialintelligence algorithms and engineering principles for assisted analysis of tunnel structure #vulnerabilities. This innovation enables the automatic creation of #informativemodel and significantly reduces analysis time through efficient integration with human oversight. Today's presentation was a tremendous success, attracting a large and highly engaged audience at Hall 9, Stand 251 in Messe Berlin. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and made this event so engaging! In addition to the premiere, I had key cluster meetup and meetings with Plataforma Ferroviaria Portuguesa and Gruppo Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane. These discussions were pivotal in strengthening collaborations and exploring future opportunities in the #railway sector. A big thank you to the #Research & #Development team, the tunneling sector, and our amazing partners for this remarkable achievement for the company, our partners (ADTS, RMT srl), our clients (RFI Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, ANAS SpA), and the industry. 📚 In the last few months we have been involved in a stimulating work: developing and delivering, together with research institute Eurac Research, a study on the #electrification of public transport in Italy, addressing issues such as evolution of the market, registrations trends, technological landscape, funding available, tenders’ analysis (and much more). 🙏🏻 Such a work, now being finalized (report will be ready by end of the month!), has been commissioned by Motus-E, the Italian association for the development of e-mobility. What a ride it’s been at European Mobility Expo! 🤩 A lot happened, so we’ve decided to share a few of our highlights of the event! 🌍 Nicolas BLAIN, Director of International Relations and European Affairs at RATPgroup, set out the important strategic role public transport plays in European industrial policy, international competitiveness, and the continent’s ecological transition, as well as RATP Group’s strong culture of collaboration with industrial partners. 🚋 Serge Reynaud, Senior Vice President for France and Switzerland at RATP Dev, gave insight into how to manage the complexities of cross-border mobility, highlighting our long experience in the Franco-Swiss region as well as how cross-border mobility forms part of the attraction of urban transport. 👨💻 And finally Coralie Triadou, CEO of our start-up dedicated to AI and data CITiO, shared how the analysis of real-time data collected from transport systems is enabling operators to better understand how their networks are used, optimize services, and support the modal shift towards more sustainable transport. 🤝 What’s more, this morning, we had the honor of welcoming the French Minister Delegate for Transport François DUROVRAY to our stand. 📢The message we sent at #EuMo2024 is clear: we are focused on delivering the best in public transport. At the AGC Glass Europe booth, we had a live demonstration showing how our cobot can seamlessly apply the WAVETHRU Retrofit solution directly on an already-mounted train window. We also showcased how the signal inside the demonstrator improved after the solution was used and how our technology creates nearly invisible patterns on the glass, maintaining aesthetics while boosting connectivity.
