The Homes for All report published by the Church of England and the Nationwide Foundation makes a clear and significant call to see a move away from the current short-term approach that’s adopted to current housing policy. A welcome intervention in the current debate and in the same vein as the NHF is calling for a long-term housing plan, this latest report further highlights that a real step change is now vital if we’re to seriously address our housing challenges.   Together with the National Housing Federation’s #longtermplan, this report sets out further positive solutions to how the change we need to see can be delivered. Breaking 📰 at the State and Local Level: State: Yesterday, Governor Newsom signed the state budget and while we were facing a $45B deficit and lawmakers made many cuts to affordable housing programs, those programs most critical to the continued development of affordable rental housing, including the state Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and the Multifamily Housing Program were spared. This year more than ever, it’s critical that California expands its investments in affordable housing to bring a robust pipeline of planned affordable homes into construction!   RCD’s 2024 Legislative Priorities reflect the need for urgent state action to maintain our momentum towards increasing affordability and addressing homelessness. Most importantly, we call on the Legislature to sustain investments that meet the scale of the housing crisis by rejecting proposed cuts to housing programs and placing a $10 billion statewide housing bond AB1657 on the November ballot.
