Having seen the manpower losses due to budget and lateral transfers and its effect on funds to investigate civil rights complaints [at least as a civil rights attorney] I hope the cost to have a table at the event and staffing it was minimal.
On this #presidentsday we want to spotlight Barnabas Partner Frank Erb and the work he is doing as a missionary pastor in the State Capital. Jesus, let your Kingdom come and will be done at the Capital as it is in heaven! Interested in learning more about this ministry? Check out this video made by Bill Foster of Portlight Creative, Inc. for IGNITE last year about Frank's ministry entitled, "Light Before Kings."

As Rabbi Hillel would say, “if I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I?”
Instead of trying to convince people to do something purely for someone else, organizers in the DART network train grassroots leaders to do what Rabbi Hillel alludes to: how to be both for themselves and for others.
Organizers do this through building deep relationships with people to help them see how standing up for their own interest is interwoven with standing up for the interest of their community as a whole. By guiding individuals through discovering what it is that calls them to fight for justice, organizers help people articulate what they value or need – and how that relates to the needs of the community. Through doing so, they invite people to be in solidarity towards creating the kind of community that we all want: to be both for themselves and for others in the pursuit of justice.
Sound like something you’d find meaning in? Check out our open positions at thedartcenter.org.

As the debate around reparations intensified in California, members of the Black community stepped forward to share their perspective on what should be done to address systemic racism.
In KQED’s “The Road to Reparations in California”, we learn how citizens in other states have held organizations and communities accountable for past wrongs. The video is a look at how reparations can be accomplished.
And now that the California Reparations Task Force has delivered its landmark 1,200-page report with 115 recommendations for reparative measures, it will be up to the state legislature — and pressure from community organizers — to keep the momentum moving toward restitution.

Proof there are at least 14 trans attorneys in CO! But should there be more?
On the 2022 CO demographic suvery, 32 attorneys identified themselves as transgender. Out of roughly 28,300 active attorneys in CO. That’s 0.1% of attorneys.
Pew Research Center estimates that 5.1% of adults between 18-29 and 1.6% of adults between 30-49 are trans or non-binary.
In Colorado, we need about 3x as many Latine attorneys to represent the population (7.59% of attorneys compared to 22.5% of population).
We need about 3.7x as many Black attorneys to represent the population (3.37% of attorneys compared to 12.4% of population).
Y’all. We need between 16-51x as many trans attorneys to represent our population.
Imagine how many Latine and Black trans attorneys we need!!!
CLBA's first ever Trans and Nonbinary Section Social was a great success! Members of the trans/NB legal community met to network, have fun, and strengthen connections. CLBA looks forward to hosting more events like this in the future and supporting these wonderful members of our community.
