Roadway Closure Alert - Construction begins April 22nd on the Bruce Road Reconstruction Project. The public is advised to expect temporary delays and detours during the 15-18 month construction period. Beginning April 22nd, there will be full road closures at two key sections of the project: (1) Bruce Road immediately south of East 20th Street to approximately 100 yards north of the Skyway, and (2) Bruce Road south of Banner Peak Drive to north of Concord Ave/Picholine Way. While public access will be maintained at key intersections, motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and plan additional travel time to navigate marked detours during construction. The City of Chico recognizes the inconvenience posed by construction activities but assures residents that the long-term benefits of the Bruce Road Reconstruction Project will outweigh temporary disruptions. Ever wondered what a road looks like under the surface? Take this diagram from the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade, where we've excavated the road down to ‘formation level’ at the intersection of Bassetts Road and Vantage Point Boulevard. If our crew digs down to the subgrade level and the material is stable, then we build up the pavement from there. But sometimes we find that ground conditions are a little softer than anticipated, and we need to do some extra earthworks to bring it up to standard. After that, we’ll: - Install new traffic lights - Reinstate the bus stop - Install new kerbs - Lay new asphalt  - Complete line marking All these activities are part of a detailed methodology for upgrading intersections. According to a report from the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, one in three bridges in the U.S. needs repair or replacement. We partner with agencies nationwide to ensure local bridges are safe and dependable for generations to come. The Vermont Agency of Transportation selected us as the Prime Consultant for Phase 1 design services to rehabilitate nine bridge structures along the Green Mountain Railroad in southern Vermont. Throughout the project, we will look to minimize impacts on rail operations and local cultural or environmental factors. This includes examining innovative bridge replacement options and Accelerated Bridge Construction techniques to reduce onsite construction while considering ease of maintenance and the region’s extreme weather. What has 2 circles, 7 legs, and keeps traffic flowing? This Fairfield County double roundabout that was designed by ELR roadway engineers, of course! To kick off National Roundabout Week, we're highlighting the completed Fairfield County Roundabout (FAI-22-9.42) project designed by ELR. With this project, ODOT District 5 hoped to improve safety at the intersections of US Rt 22, SR 159 and County Rt 30. After reviewing three alternative traffic recommendations from ELR, ODOT went with the double roundabout design. Because of the rural location, farm vehicles had to be considered in the deigns. Curbs, truck aprons and drainage improvements were also involved in the design. Plans for a gas station on one corner of Delmont Rd. (County Rt 30) and US 22 also have to be weaved into the design.
