Student Learning Disabilities Nurse and Volunteer

I've come across a video from a Warwickshire County Council meeting and actually cannot believe what I've seen. In discussion about SEND Education phrases such as: "Is it something in the water?" "Why are there so many people jumping out with these needs" and most appallingly "They must have had better ways of dealing with them- let's go back to some of those ways" when talking about institutions! Have these councillors forgotten that people with additional needs were abused in the worst possible ways, locked up and chained to radiators when held in institutions? What does Ofsted think of this being suggested as practice for care of vulnerable children and young people? These people should have absolutely nothing to do with decisions relating to the care and support of some of the most vulnerable people in society, nor should they be trusted in public office. People aren't just "jumping out", they've always been here but have been persistently failed and/or abused. Equally, we don't "deal" with them, we support them showing care and compassion to help them achieve their full potential. These attitudes are the very reason people with additional needs and disabilities are consistently failed and cannot meet their full potential. These type of people are the very reason I am studying to become a Learning Disabilities Nurse to make this world a fairer place. For reference: the video can be found here: https://lnkd.in/e4DeJK4a
