How long does it take for Corten steel to develop its patina? 🤔⤵️ The time it takes for Corten steel to develop its full patina varies depending on the environment and weather conditions, typically ranging from six months to two years. In humid and wet environments, the patina can form more quickly, while in drier climates, it may take longer. The process starts with the initial rust formation, which then stabilises and creates a protective layer. This patina not only gives Corten steel its distinctive, attractive appearance but also provides its unique weather-resistant properties. Regular exposure to varying weather elements, such as rain, sun, and wind, helps accelerate and enhance the patina development 🌦️ Do you have any questions about Corten? Have You Heard of Dragon Ties in Historic Buildings? When we think about historic buildings, we often admire their charm and beauty, but behind the scenes, there’s some incredible engineering that keeps them standing. One fascinating feature found in older timber-framed buildings is the dragon tie. So, what is a dragon tie? It’s a diagonal timber beam used in the corners of buildings, particularly in medieval and Tudor timber-framed houses. Its purpose is to support the structure where walls meet at right angles, helping to distribute the roof load and strengthen the frame. Think of it as an early (and elegant) form of reinforcement! Dragon ties allowed builders to achieve larger overhangs – those striking jettied upper floors that give historic buildings their iconic look. As we work to preserve these structures today, it’s a reminder of how traditional building techniques still inspire modern solutions. Does anyone know why they are referred to a dragon ties? There are a few theories…….. #HistoricBuildings #Architecture #TraditionalCraftsmanship #TimberFrame #BuildingConservation #Engineering

Did you know? The Inca builders used a technique called "ashlar masonry", where stones were cut to fit perfectly together without the use of mortar. The stones, which could weigh several tons, were cut using simple tools like hammers and chisels made of harder stones. No mortar was used in the construction of the walls, yet the stones fit so precisely that even a knife blade cannot fit between them. #didyouknow #ancienthistory #construction #constructionhistory #architecture #ganimcompany

🌿 Preserving History: The art of stone masonry in listed buildings 🌿 Restoring historic buildings involves carefully working with original materials; stone, timber, brick, or plaster, that have aged over decades or centuries. The goal is to stabilise and conserve these elements, maintaining the building’s authenticity and structural integrity. This work requires technical expertise in traditional construction methods and materials, as well as problem solving for issues like weathering, decay and previous unsuitable repairs. Each project is a hands-on challenge, blending craftsmanship with an understanding of heritage conservation principles. 🏛️ HERITAGE ARCHITECTURE SURVEYS 🛕 When conducting a measured building survey for a heritage upgrade, we prioritize a higher Level of Detail (LOD) compared to standard surveys. On-site, we use higher-resolution scanning to capture intricate architectural features, which are then translated into comprehensive drawings. These may include details such as brick patterns, cornices, skirting boards, dado rails, façade elements, ornate plasterwork, balustrades, and staircases. We collaborate closely with you to identify and address your specific planning requirements. Additional upgrades might include sectional elevations, profile schedules, detailed window and door sections, and deformation surveys
