Here's my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind: Ever wondered what it takes to change a nation's laws about animal testing? In my world, it's a mix of relentless passion, strategic planning, and believing that small teams can create massive shifts. 2024 was the year we proved that in Chile. After years of work with Te Protejo, we didn't just advocate - we literally wrote the national law banning animal testing, set to be implemented in January 2025. "We wrote it, and it has been approved with our writing and wording." Not just a dream anymore, but actual policy. 💪🐰 This journey wasn't solo - it was about building incredible connections. From the Animal & Vegan Advocacy (AVA) Summit , CARE Conference, VBS summit and others to collaborations with more than 20 organizations, 2024 was about creating a network that transforms advocacy from local efforts to regional movements. "Love to connect, put myself out there, be authentic and honest" - that's been my approach to changing the world. 🫂 Professional highlights? Beyond the legislative victory: • Completed Fundraising Essentials certification with Anima International • Completed Funraising course of Red de Impacto LATAM • Recognized as one of the "50 Genias 2024" from GENIAS for sustainability work • Finally recieved my MBA degree in NGO Management & CSR from Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences • Board Member in Fundación Veg and Generation Vegan. Looking ahead to 2025: Implementing Chile and Mexico's animal testing ban, expanding our network and working for bans in other countries and proving that passionate, strategic advocates can transform entire industries. "Animals are still being tortured in labs due to beauty cosmetics" - but not for long. To every activist out there: keep pushing, keep believing. Small actions create massive waves. 💖 Grateful to everyone who made this journey possible - ONG Te Protejo team and the incredible network of animal welfare advocates across Latin America. #LinkedInRewind #2024Wrapped #AnimalAdvocacy -- Get your 2024 LinkedIn Rewind! Dear Friends in Farmed Animal Advocacy, I'm looking to listen to views on burnout and wellbeing by Heads/Country Managers of organisations doing farmed animal work in Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Here are some lines from “'Nobody's paying me to cry': The causes of activist burnout in United States animal rights activists” in Social Movement Studies by Paul Gorski, Stacy Lopresti-Goodman and Dallas Rising on burnout causes in the movement: - The disruptive nature of activist burnout has led some scholars to argue that it is among the biggest threats to social movement stability (Pigni, 2016; Pogrebin, 1994) - One of their respondents observed: ‘There is a mentality that you just have to push through it and no matter what you are experiencing, the animals are experiencing worse.’ - The conclusion read: “We urge AR organizations to offer supports for combating burnout and movement leaders to prioritize leading against burnout. The common approach – work-shops on how individuals can cope with burnout through self-care – is insufficient...No amount of self-care can counteract these burnout causes”. And from a leader I interviewed: “...a CEO’s life is like that. Even when I was very sick, I was told I have to attend this meeting (by board member).” "I was told “Don’t be gentle, emotional or care too much. That’s weak leadership.”" If you know others who may be open to speak with me for about two hours on zoom anonymously in August, I can be reached at vadivu@innerwealth.global. Out of these conversations, I'll sense the need for and interest in leadership development around wellbeing. Thank you. PS: Pictured here is a gentle soul I met at Charlie’s Acres, a farm animal sanctuary in California.

Green Nudge alert😉🌿! I illustrate a weekly series of novel interventions aimed at encouraging people to act more sustainably✨. #greennudge #visualstorytelling #behavioralscience #sustainability #illustration
#GreenNudge: Value-Activation Nudge: Encouraging meat-eaters to reflect on animal welfare Today's nudge comes from Claire Brouwer, a postdoctoral researcher specialising in Organisational Change for Sustainability Transitions at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She also serves as an external lecturer at the Amsterdam Business School. Claire is an expert in sustainable consumer behaviour and its associated communication. In March 2023, she concluded her doctoral program, becoming an expert on the role of morally motivated individuals in driving societal change. 👉 What unsustainable behaviour needs to change: Reducing global meat consumption can significantly improve animal welfare, environmental, and health issues. While most people value animal welfare, they continue to eat meat. This paradox exists because meat-eaters often strategically avoid thinking about the moral implications of their choices (strategic ignorance) or convince themselves that eating meat is normal, natural, and necessary (motivated reasoning). For example, if someone mentions animal suffering just as you're about to cut into a juicy steak, there's a high chance you'll lose your appetite. 👉 The Green Nudge: A research team from Wageningen University and University of Groningen developed a ‘value-activation’ strategy to prime meat-eaters to reflect on their concern for animal welfare. By asking questions like, “Do you consider animal welfare to be important?” they can induce discomfort over the inconsistency between their meat consumption and their values. This discomfort, known as ‘cognitive dissonance,’generates negative feelings such as guilt or shame. These feelings have significant motivational power; activating self-regulatory behaviours that align with one's values, such as reducing meat consumption. The researchers tested the value-activation strategy both online and in a physical setting. The online study revealed that this strategy increased the discomfort people felt when considering meat consumption, which subsequently heightened their intention to choose a vegetarian meal. This effect was particularly pronounced among individuals who strongly identify with environmental values. ➡ The result: A subsequent field study in a restaurant showed that the value-activation strategy nearly doubled the percentage of vegetarian burgers ordered. The findings demonstrate that prompting people to reflect on their concern for animal welfare can compel them to confront their inner conflict regarding meat consumption, and thereby channel that concern into choosing a vegetarian meal. Are you aware of any other nudges that help to reduce meat consumption? Feel free to comment or get in touch: hello@green-nudges.com

The value activation #strategy looks promising. However, we know that warning labels on cigarettes and alcohol, such as "smoking is injurious to health" or "it causes cancer," tend to be initially effective but are eventually ignored by many people. Here are some suggestions to sustain the impact: Positive Reinforcement: Provide rewards such as coupons, discounts, or gifts whenever individuals choose vegetarian options. This tangible benefit reinforces the positive #behavior. Emotional Appeal: Create engaging content, such as videos where animals express #gratitude for being spared, to create an #emotional connection and reinforce the impact of their choices. Variety of Nudges: Implement multiple #nudges simultaneously to cater to different #motivations and prevent habituation. For example, combine value-activation with visual reminders, incentives, and educational campaigns. Green Nudges

It's been one year since I decided to go all-in on dedicating my life to using AI to help animals, shutting down a very successful and profitable marketing agency to focus full time on the not-yet-profitable VEG3 and on launching the nonprofit organisation Open Paws. From a strictly financial perspective that might be one of the worst decisions I've ever made, but in terms of impact for animals, it's easily the single best decision I've ever made. VEG3 now provides free services to 5,000+ users, including new and aspiring vegans who use it to go and stay vegan, animal advocates who use it advocate more effectively for animals and vegan businesses who use it to promote cruelty-free products. Open Paws has now provided 50+ free consultations to animal advocacy organisations on how to use AI to increase their impact for animals, as well as reached countless more through presentations and trainings at animal rights conferences, podcast and media appearances and digital content. Within the next few weeks, we'll release the results of the first comprehensive survey on AI usage within the animal advocacy movement, collect massive amounts of human feedback data on how AI responses affect animals and launch a massive database containing the collective knowledge of the entire animal advocacy movement. Within the next year, we'll train the world's first animal-aligned, anti-speciesist AI model and open source it for anyone and everyone to use free of charge, publish research on how this affects the model in terms of performance and safety, help countless animal advocacy organisations implement AI in their workflows, launch international lobbying campaigns for better regulations on how AI impacts animals and work closely with major AI labs to influence their models in a more animal-friendly direction. Whilst we've achieved a lot in the past year, most of it has been focused on laying the groundwork for the significantly larger amount that we're going to achieve in this next year and I can't wait to show you all what's next.

Yesterday, I went to Amsterdam to commemorate my main motivation for wanting to tranform the food system: the animals. This is how many animals we will kill today for food: 900,000 cows 1.4 million goats 1.7 million sheep 3.8 million pigs 12 million ducks 202 million chickens Hundreds of millions of sea animals (It's difficult to give an accurate number for sea animals). The majority of these animals will have been factory farmed. So would have suffered a terrible life as well as an unwanted death. So, it's only right that yesterday I took the time to give remembrance to all the these deaths on National Animal Rights Day. Unfortunately, we humans see big numbers as statistics rather than a tragedy but each animal was innocent yet was sentenced to death from birth. Fortunately, plant-based eating also greatly reduces greenhouse emissions, has health benefits, massively reduces resource use. If this weren't the case, I would still not eat animals. I would not want to be in their situation so why would I put innocent animals in that situation? If you're a vegan, thank you for being part of the change to make a just food system that considers non-human animals too. If you're still eating animals, please take a moment each time you do to consider how neccesary it was for an animal to be killed to feed you. If we all did that, I think a lot fewer animals would be killed for food.

‼️Most of us don't have any idea about the use of innocent animals in experiments to test the safety, efficacy, and potential side effects of products like cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. Animals such as mice, rats, rabbits, and monkeys are often used to evaluate the impact of these substances on biological systems before they are considered safe for human use. You can't directly stop this but here are a few ways by which you can Contribute to Controlling Cruel Animal Testing:- 1. Support Cruelty-Free Products: Purchase products from brands that do not test on animals. Look for cruelty-free certification labels such as Leaping Bunny or PETA-approved. 2. Advocate for Legislation: Support and promote legislation that bans or restricts animal testing. Engage with policymakers and raise awareness in your community. 3. Encourage Alternatives: Advocate for and invest in alternative testing methods, such as in-vitro testing, computer modeling, and organ-on-a-chip technologies that can replace animal testing. 4. Support Animal Rights Organizations: Contribute to organizations that work to end animal testing through lobbying, research, and public campaigns, such as the Humane Society or Cruelty-Free International. 5. Raise Awareness: Use social media platforms, blogs, or public speaking opportunities to educate others about the ethical issues surrounding animal testing and promote cruelty-free practices. These efforts can collectively help reduce the reliance on animal testing across various industries and promote humane alternatives. Let's create a better place for every living being 😇✨ #animaltesting #animalcruelty #crueltyfreeproducts #peta #cfbr
