It was a fantastic start to International Women’s Day to be a panelist at this year’s women’s brunch presented by The Landscape Association We discussed how we can elevate the position of women in the industry. Key takeaways: 1. More Visibility of women in industry across all areas from CEO level to apprentices. Seeing these women in marketing and on social media will normalise their position in the industry and help shift the ‘boys club’ culture. 2. Cultural change that begins at the top. Leadership and management need to be firm in establishing a culture of safety, acceptance and development for everyone particularly in the trades. Small things like shifting language from gendered terms eg “you…like a girl” goes a long way to make women feel comfortable working in male dominated environments. 3. Collaboration across industry is needed to open up more opportunities and attract more women into roles that have scope well beyond entry level. This will increase financial security and independence for women and lead to improved career satisfaction and growth.

Entrepreneurship Isn't a Solo Journey Running your business can feel lonely, but remember, you're not alone. Today, I had a heart-to-heart chat with a friend in the IT industry. We discussed the challenges of starting a company and pushing forward each day. It is not easy, and it's not for the weak. What makes it difficult is it does get lonely when you don't have someone to explain what you're going through or someone who understands you the challenges your going through. What I've learned is connecting with your peers is critical. I've learned so much from conversations with friends, vendors, and people like Melanie Rae. It's these connections that keep us going. Just a reminder to all entrepreneurs out there: don't be afraid to reach out and talk to others in your field. It really helps. #teamspn
