It's hard to believe that our family company will be celebrating its 80th Anniversary this year (Since 1944).   The last 3 months have been a turbulent time in the Die Sets, Plate, Parallels, and Custom Fabrications market segment. We have seen a 100-year-old manufacture in this segment close their doors (Superior Die Set), and needless to say, this has caused a “ripple effect” through the 5 states we are Blessed to service (MO / IL / KS / IA / NE). But it is in these times of change, we (Lee Horneyer Company) felt it imperative to take a hard “look in the mirror” in the trust and value we are offering to our marketplace in this segment (Die Sets, Plate, Parallels, and Custom Fabrications).   Lee Horneyer Company (Since 1944) is proud to introduce a company that is “that” (On time… As Promised… At a Cost In Line With Fair Market Value), but so much more…..

I recently made a mistake when celebrating a great month in our company.  We blew away our goal and I wanted to recognize our team. Instead of just congratulating our team for their great accomplishment, I threw in the dreaded "but" at the end of it. "but, next month will most likely be much different." There was no need for me to do this.  I intended to shield them from a possible letdown the following month since we always have a strong January. The "but" was not necessary at that time (and probably not at all). Celebrate your wins.  Recognize the success of your team - the other stuff can wait. A well-informed team already knows of the challenges that may lie ahead and is prepared to handle them. Let celebrating your wins stand on its own.  Do not dilute what your team accomplished. Interestingly, February came and they beat our target for that month as well.....and did it again in March.

I’ve never pretended to know everything. As a matter of fact, when I was offered my first management job in the car business I probably knew less about the industry than most of the people I was competing with for the job. What set me apart? I never stop learning and more importantly, I believe in people. People who know more than me, but lack direction. People who know less than me, but have superior drive and dedication. People who choose to learn rather than stagnate. People who shine like diamonds, even when they fail. People who challenge me. People who frustrate me. People who will never give up…. I believe that our people are the lifeblood of our business. The superstars and the overachievers aren’t everything, it takes a village and a leader who believes in everyone. I’ve been blessed with many such leaders, and I’m blessed to be in a position where I can lead the next generation of people who haven’t even scratched the surface of their potential.
