Join Campion Homes in Supporting Doddie Aid 2025! From the 1st of January to the 5th of February, 15 members of the Campion Homes team are coming together to complete as many miles as possible as part of Doddie Aid, a mass participation event raising vital funds for the ‘My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. The foundation was created by rugby player Doddie Weir, who tragically passed away in November 2022 at the age of just 52 after battling Motor Neurone Disease (MND). MND is a devastating illness that affects the motor neurons of the nervous system which currently has no cure. The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is on a mission to change that, raising much-needed funds to support groundbreaking research into finding a cure for this disease. At Campion Homes, we’re doing our part by running, walking, cycling, walking the dog, taking gym classes, and even running with weighted vests – every step and every mile counts. Many of us have been personally affected by MND and have lost loved ones to this disease. Participating in Doddie Aid is our way of contributing to this vital cause and honouring their memory. We’d love your support as we work hard to raise funds for this special charity. Please support the Campion Homes team and help us make a difference. Every pound raised is greatly appreciated by us and by those affected by MND. "Every swing on the golf course can make a difference." 🏌♂️ ⛳ This past Monday, I had the privilege of participating in the Fore Hadley Golf Classic, an event that goes beyond just a game. It’s a chance to come together, enjoy the sport we love, and raise funds for an incredible cause that impacts the lives of children and families impacted by Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). For several years now, Remington Medical Inc. has been a proud sponsor of this event, and each year, I’m reminded of the profound impact our contributions can have. The work that the Fore Hadley team does is nothing short of inspiring. They are dedicated to supporting families and children in need, and it’s heartening to see how our collective efforts can foster real change. Golf may be the backdrop, but the real winners are the lives we touch through our support. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting out, participating in events like this is a powerful way to give back and connect with others who share a passion for making a difference. There are still some great Fore Hadley hats available! If you would like to support the cause, you can visit https://lnkd.in/e7KS2SgW and contribute $30. Once you have made the contribution, please email info@forehadley.com with shipping information and you will receive your hat via mail. About CDH: Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) is a rare birth defect that effects roughly 1 in every 2,500 live births per year worldwide with an estimated 1,600 new cases in the United States annually. Roughly 50% of babies born with CDH do not survive. Of the 50% that do survive, most will endure long hospital stays, feeding issues, asthma and other problems. A few of the survivors suffer from severe long-term medical issues. The cause of CDH is still completely unknown. #Golf #Charity #Community Ryan Bush, Jennifer Stevenson, Robert D.

Some of you may know that this weekend is Worcester Half Marathon. As part of SJL Insurance Services ongoing charity commitment a few of our guys are running to raise money for Acorns Children's Hospice. Which I'm sure if you are aware of the work that they do is a really important cause that raises money for children with complex medical needs. Currently Acorns Children's Hospice is facing the unimaginable prospect of turning away a child in need for the first time in their history this is due to the Government considering scrapping The Children's Hospice Grant which is vital for charities like Acorns to continue providing the care for families that is so crucial. The current cost of running a hospice comes in at over £10,000 a day which I'm sure you would agree is a staggering fee that is only made possible by donations. So if you were considering donating in the past now is the time as your money could be life changing for a family in need. Oliver Wakefield Cert CII & Culum Plane are the two guys out of the new business team that are picking up the baton this year. (Even more impressive is that Ollie has just welcomed two beautiful little twin girls into the world so his training has had to revolve around no sleep and a very hectic couple of weeks.) Any donation that you can make would be gratefully received. https://lnkd.in/exsZ9TbA https://lnkd.in/egCv_7W8 #charity #acorns #insurance #donations

The Revitalising Trusts project, which is a collaboration between Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) and Foundation Scotland, reached a bit of a milestone recently, as it passed the £5 million mark of dormant funds revitalised for public benefit since the project launched in 2021. So, on a very cold December day last week, we went to see just what difference this is making, in Aberdeen and Peterhead. Families, individuals, and communities across Scotland have a long history of establishing charitable trusts with heartfelt intentions to support causes close to their values. However, we've uncovered a challenging reality – many of these well-intentioned funds have become inactive over time. So far, we have identified over 300 inactive charitable trusts, some of which have been lying dormant for decades, and in some cases, over a century. The challenges are diverse – difficulty in recruiting new trustees, time constraints, and the evolving social landscape that can make original trust purposes challenging to maintain and fulfil. However, what we know, is that when the project is able to make a success of getting to these dormant trusts, they really do make a difference, as we were able to see last week. We were so warmly welcomed on our visits to AberNecessities, the RNLI Peterhead Lifeboat station, and the Peterhead Men's Sheds. Three very different charities, doing incredible and necessary work. Literally lifesaving work, in all its different guises. The funds they received were as a result of revitalising eight different dormant trusts - trusts that had not been providing public benefit in decades. More to come, more dusty trust deeds to unpick and hopefully, more successes, especially in a time when the sector needs financial support more than ever to address the needs that they are seeing in their communities. Are Charities in Crisis? Charities and community organisations are facing unprecedented challenges due to rising costs and decreasing income. In response, the Community Foundation for Surrey established a central Crisis Fund in 2021 to provide crucial support for organisations at risk of closure. While the fund cannot keep organisations open indefinitely, it offers vital short-term financial support when there is a clear plan to stabilise operations. To date, thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Crisis Fund has awarded £116,139 in grants, benefiting 6,700 people across Surrey. These grants have supported a wide range of organisations, with the highest number based in Woking. For most recipients, this funding has alleviated temporary cashflow issues, enabling them to implement cost-saving measures or expand income generation. As a result, essential organisations serving those most in need have been able to continue their vital work. One beneficiary shared: "Thanks to this funding, we’ve been able to keep going and have introduced new strategies and procedures to move forward into a stronger financial position. None of this would have been possible without the timely support of the Community Foundation for Surrey."

Starting a GoFundMe for a faith-based financial need can be a powerful way to rally support from a broad community, leveraging the compassion and generosity of people who care about your cause. It allows for an accessible platform to clearly communicate your story and needs, making it easy for donors to contribute and stay connected from around the world. This can be especially important for urgent or unexpected expenses that exceed the immediate resources of your faith community. By providing regular updates and detailed financial reports, you maintain transparency, building trust and ensuring donors feel connected to the impact of their contributions. Join the thousands who have started a GoFundMe for their faith-based cause. Sadaqah Jariyah is an Islamic term for a long-term charitable act that continues to benefit others, even after the donor's death. The term translates to "voluntary charity" or "continuous charity". Some examples of Sadaqah Jariyah include: Building a school, hospital, or mosque Building a water well Planting a tree Creating farmland Building a home or shelter for people or animals Inventing something useful for people or animals Sponsoring a child or orphan's education The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said that when a person dies, their good deeds end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for them.

Such an important point here by Phil Kerry about the damage done by these misleading headlines about charity CEO salaries, and the truth behind the numbers. And yes, the Charity Commission should categorise charities better - but more than that, our sector would be much better off if they stopped periodically throwing red meat to the right wing press, knowing exactly what the results will be. Because the results are always the same - wilful oversimplification of the data to intentionally erode public trust. A bit like those periodic headlines about "mega rich charities" that are actually funders which make use of a huge endowment to give grants to the sector. There's nothing wrong with debating how much charities of different sizes should pay their CEOs, and how much of their endowments funders should pay out. But we rarely have proper debates, we just have pile-ons.
I am starting to wonder if the Charity Commission for England and Wales needs to add categories of membership to stop some of these damaging headlines and help the public understand the sector better. Because I read this and my hearts sinks, because I know what the implications of the piece will be. All because 19 charities (out of 170,000) paid 44 people (out of a workforce of over a million) more than £400,000. Yes it is a huge sum but it is worth noting that 20 of these come from Wellcome Trust who have a turnover of >£500million and won't be in receipt of individual donations. And a handful more come from Nuffield Health whose £1billion+ turnover would dwarf most private sector companies. As a sector we need to do more to educate the public on the modern day role that charities play in society, but I can't help but think that we might also need a better way of categorising the 'super charities' so that it is clear that charity in the year 2025 takes many forms - and this is not a representative one.
