it's okay to feel hope. Hope is not just an emotion; it's a powerful source of energy that fuels our actions. This energy is contagious, and when shared, it becomes a catalyst for change. Change is not just needed—it's imperative. Each and every one of us plays a crucial role in making the change we want to see, especially as we approach the November election. Since 2016, many people have experienced a nightmare of a time. We've seen a rise in toxic behaviors, including gaslighting, bullying, and a disturbing resurgence of white supremacy. Violence has escalated, and our communities have felt the strain. We're tired of our books being banned, of seeing LGBTQIA+ individuals endangered for simply being themselves, and of witnessing women lose rights over their own bodies. The mental and emotional toll of these times has been profound. But there is a way out—a path to the relief we all seek. It starts with hope and ends with a vote. Together, we can make a difference. Let's harness our collective energy, stand up for what is right, and vote for a future where justice, equality, and compassion prevail. Every vote counts, and every voice matters. Let's make this November count. #lgbtqia+ #womensrights #lgbtqrights #mentalhealthmatters #VoteHarris

Human Rights Day reminds us that “All Humans Are Born Free and Equal in Dignity and Rights.” If we exclude any woman from this principle, we undermine the very essence of justice. Protecting the rights of transgender women is not just a legal requirement; it is a moral duty. As we conclude this year’s 16 Days of Activism, let us unite for a society where every woman’s humanity is respected, her rights safeguarded, and her dignity upheld. We must push for a future where human right has no exclusions, and justice serves all equally. #16daysofactivismagainstgenderbasedviolence #minoritywatch

Rights aren’t truly fulfilled for any of us until they’re upheld for everyone. This idea reminds us that our freedom, equality, and security are interconnected. If just one person faces discrimination or is denied their rights, it reflects a gap in our shared commitment to fairness and justice. No matter how comfortable or secure we may feel in our individual rights, these freedoms are only meaningful if everyone can access them. By advocating for the rights of others, we create a stronger, more inclusive society. Each step toward equality—whether for gender, race, age, or any other difference—moves all of us closer to a world where everyone feels valued and respected. When we stand up for the rights of others, we contribute to a society where we can all thrive. So, let’s choose to support each other and recognize that true progress happens when we lift each other up. Every effort we make toward inclusion and justice ultimately strengthens the rights we each hold dear. Together, we’re building a future that’s fair and just for everyone. #EqualityForAll #StandForRights #Inclusivity #Progress #Empowerment

Reflections on presenting on a webinar on 25 years of improving people's lives So this week, Marie Pye, and I with terrific support from Nathan Salmon and Cara Low put on a webinar on how much has changed since 1998. I learnt so much from the process of putting it together - there have been massive changes, many of which we now take for granted: accessible buses, equal rights for LGBTQI plus people, much greater representation of under-represented groups in different professions and the arts. We do have much more to do but we should be thinking if things have changed so much since 1998, we can do more. Our research gave me a response to this is all 'woke' nonsense. No, it isn't, people working on equality issues have made real, tangible differences and have changed people's lives for the better. If you would like to see the recording of the webinar, subscribe to the EW Group's newsletter and ask for a copy. We would also be open for running the webinar at different events. Today marks the 25th year of Transgender Day of Remembrance. As of today, 350 trans and gender-diverse people have been k*l*ed around the world since the beginning of 2024. The Transgender Project reports “Surveys suggest that Black trans women make up less than 8% of the US trans population, yet they make up over 30% of our U.S. list and 50% of the losses from violent crimes. This year, 86% of all deaths due to violence were BIPOC community members… Black trans women are more than the victims of anti-trans violence; they have always been at the forefront of the movement – building community, advocating for policy change, and organizing to protect our rights.” For more information about today, and what we can do by way of intentional advocacy, see the article below, which is but one digital source of what today means. https://lnkd.in/gBPTQmTt

The over whelming presence of movies that represent mostly children from majority groups is an example of privilege, favouring some children over others in terms of the development of their sense of belonging and relatedness. Consider this in the context of the statistic that in 2021 only 5.4% of characters in the most popular scripted TV shows were women with dark skin tones. Representation matters. #inclusion #diversity #representation #privilege

Every trans life lost is a wake-up call. Transgender Remembrance Week starts today. It’s more than a hashtag. It’s a call to recognize the lives lost to anti-trans violence. It’s a reminder that trans rights are human rights. This week, let’s amplify trans voices, honor their stories, and face uncomfortable truths. We must acknowledge the harsh reality—and pledge to do better. How can we create spaces where trans individuals feel safe, seen, and valued? Join us as we share stories, insights, and ways to take action. It’s time to stand up and show true allyship.
