Do you often feel a burning sensation from your chest to your stomach or experience a sore throat and bitter taste in your mouth after burping? You may be suffering from acidity, also known as acid reflux. Acidity occurs when stomach acid flows back up into the food pipe through the esophagus, causing a burning sensation. When this happens frequently, it can lead to Gastrointestinal Reflux Disease (GERD). GERD is a condition where the upward flow of stomach acid corrodes the gastro-esophageal sphincter, causing acid to reach the throat and leaving a bitter taste in the mouth. It may even cause an itchy sensation in the throat and frequent coughing. Instead of just treating the symptoms, it's important to understand the causes of acidity. So, if you experience these symptoms more than two or three times a week, it's advisable to seek medical attention. #acidreflux #gerd

August is Gastroparesis Awareness Month, focused on improving understanding of this motility disease. Gastroparesis occurs when the stomach muscles, controlled by the vagus nerve, fail to move food properly through the gastrointestinal tract. Diabetes is a major cause, as it can damage the vagus nerve. Common symptoms include nausea, vomiting, undigested food, feeling full quickly, stomach pain, lack of appetite, acid reflux, and bloating. Symptoms can worsen with rich, greasy, high-fiber foods, and carbonated beverages. If you experience these symptoms, consult your doctor and get tested! Early diagnosis is key to effective treatment. Reflux disease is a common condition, where the stomach contents passes back up into the oesophagus. Contents of the stomach (e.g. acid, pepsin as well as bile) escapes through a valve at the top of the stomach into the oesophagus (the tube that carries food to the stomach) and even into the airways. Peptest is an accurate, painless and inexpensive test that tells you conclusively if you have reflux.

All of the names for the chronic diseases we see in our patients are all just different ways to say “imbalanced”. Pooping to much and too often. Not pooping enough. Too much gas. Too much bloat. Not enough enzymes. The list can go on and on. Even inflammation itself is vital and wonderful but too much can really do damage. These 8 points are just examples of what we can take control of in our lives to hopefully find more balance. You are worth it and you can do it! ❤️ #ibs #sibo #imo #sifo #integrativenutrition #plantbasednutrition #registereddietitian #plantbaseddietitian #integrativedietitian

Hello connections!!!! National Vitamin C Day on April 4th each year shares all the ways vitamin C nurtures and benefits our health, inside and out! While Vitamin C is widely recognized for warding off colds, the vitamin is also clinically proven to be a powerhouse in other areas of health, too. For example, Vitamin C may reduce blood pressure and potentially lower the risk of heart disease. Those at risk of gout can lower that risk by increasing their intake of Vitamin C. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking
