Our latest review of U.S. pension plans indicates that larger pensions generally exhibit moderate levels of both risk and return. However, the fluctuation in risk and return for smaller pensions is substantial, which can be alarming. https://lnkd.in/euV3B_m7
🚨New @FT column from me on how bigger pension funds ≠ better performance, but consolidation is worth pursuing nonetheless. Along the way I take a look at 10yr performance of the US public pension plan universe and find it unrelated to both the size of the plan as well as its exposure to private market assets. Founder @ Ceres Infrastructure Asset Management LLC (Private Credit Fund extending large and long-term loans to renovate Core US infrastructures)
Attracted by promises of high returns, many public pension funds have been loading up on private equity but may not fully appreciate the dangers says the NY Times. Pension funds probably did the same with most high return funds. Shall pension funds (over)react if scared of not producing enough returns to pay pensions or should they proactively allocate wisely to more defensive and secure investments, new allocations and an additional objective to making money? https://lnkd.in/eWtydRbt

#Canada's pension funds are famous for their international investment strategies. But they are facing backlash at home with nearly 100 business leaders urging the government to find ways to channel local retirement savings into Canadian companies and projects. Stephen Poloz, Canada's ex central bank governor who is heading a national review of the issue, tells Danielle Myles he's more interested in "removing barriers" rather than "coercing" investment. Yet the debate has struck a cord in Europe, where governments and businesses are also vying for institutional capital. Thanks to Joe Dabrowski, Matti Leppälä, Pensioenfederatie (Dutch Federation of Pension Funds), National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems and Diego López for sharing your insights. #FDI #foreigndirectinvestment #pensionfunds #publicpensionfunds #institutionalcapital #Maple8 #Mapleeight #canadianpensionfunds #openletter #Canadiangovernment #Canadianinvestment #retirementsavings Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association PensionsEurope https://lnkd.in/gVTb3WKJ
