Boost to Geoscience for Australia's future! Great to see some media coverage around Geoscience Australia's announced $566m decadal plan for lifting pre-competitive data provision and knowledge primarily around #criticalminerals for energy transition and subsurface water resources. As geoscientists we well know the significant uncertainties which sit behind any discovery success and value of data in reducing those risks. We have a constant need to improve and add to our understanding of our geological terrains on and below the surface. This article mentions the ongoing quest to improve mapping of the ~80% of our continent under younger rock cover is a major leverage for our countries future prosperity. The UNCOVER initiative started it - bravo for that foresight team-geo!

Geoscience BC plays a huge role in providing key independent, non-partisan geoscience research that is needed to support complex natural resource management, development and innovation decisions in this province. At BRIMM - University of British Columbia , we recognize Geoscience BC as an essential service provider and a pioneering leader in nurturing thoughtful collaborations. Continued government funding of Geoscience BC is vital - as a leveraged investment towards better shared futures for all British Columbians. Check out the blog post for some highlights of the out-sized impact of Geoscience BC's efforts. And also for ways you can create more awareness of how continued government funding support can enable more of it! #geoscience #collaboration #bceconomy #bcnaturalresources
💰 Every $1 invested by Geoscience BC in #minerals research helps generate $7 #mineralexploration investment in #bceconomy & informs natural resource development decisions. ⛏💡💧 🌎 We’re asking #BCNDP #ConservativePartyofBritishColumbia #BCGreens & independents to support funding Geoscience BC in #bcelection2024. ➡️ More here: https://ow.ly/Rp1E50Tkqgz

EnerGeo Alliance is #makingenergypossible by progressing policies, prioritizing people, and pivoting perceptions. Listen to EnerGeo's President & CEO, Nikki Martin, testimony before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources.
Last week, Nikki Martin, President and CEO of EnerGeo Alliance testified before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. During her testimony, Martin responded to inquiries regarding geoscience surveys and their significance in research and development. She explained that these surveys not only identify the locations of resources but also offer crucial insights into identifying the most energy-dense and least carbon-intensive sources on the planet. #Testimony #MakingEnergyPossible

MEDIA MENTION // SER's Senior Researcher Davin Bagdonas was quoted in an article shared by CNN about a recent study and corresponding publication led by The University of Texas at Austin to explore the extent of rare earth elements in coal fly ash. The objective of the study was to estimate coal ash resources and potential for extraction of rare earth elements using data for the US. It was published in the International Journal of Coal Science & Technology. A geologist by trade, Bagdonas excels in his area of expertise related to coal and rare earth elements and served as a co-author on the publication. Additional authors on the study include co-lead authors Bridget Scanlon and Robert Reedy of UT’s Bureau of Economic Geology at the Jackson School of Geosciences, bureau researchers J. Richard Kyle and Kristine Uhlman, University of Kentucky research professor James Hower, and independent consultant Dennis James. https://lnkd.in/gi-yesqz

Great mantra from Dr Mosa Mabuza (from @Council for Geosciences South Africa) at the #RawMaterials Week, which speaks to the importance of nations investing in geoscience education, training and research; “Geoscience is a fulcrum for human development”. So important in the light of the daft decision by the University of Wollongong to close its geoscience department, in a resource-rich nation. More importantly geoscientists are the only experts we have for groundwater, hydrogen, geothermal energy, carbon sequestration, geo hazards … and the national return on investment is very high in the Earth Sciences

💧University of Oklahoma researchers have uncovered new insights into pressure changes in the Arbuckle Group, a deep wastewater disposal reservoir in the mid-continental U.S. Over a 3.5-year study (2016–2020), data from 15 wells across eight Oklahoma counties revealed that Arbuckle pressure has decreased even as injections continue. 🔬 This extensive study, led by 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧 from the Oklahoma Geological Survey, provides a broader view of subsurface pressure and injection activity than previous studies, which often focus on single wells or shorter timeframes. The findings were published in the 𝙅𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙂𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝: 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙙 𝙀𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙝. 📑 more: link.ou.edu/4hXp2vP
