The reason you’re not advancing to the next level in your career is not because there’s no budget 😳 It’s because you’re not amplifying your superpower in everything you do at work. 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿? That's the 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗲𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 – and I've not only faced it, I've shattered it. As a woman in the corporate world, I've experienced firsthand the challenges of the glass ceiling. Did you know that despite making up 47% of the U.S. workforce, women hold only 24% of C-suite positions in Fortune 500 companies? And the numbers are even more stark for women of color, who hold just 4% of these top roles. My journey to breaking through wasn't easy. I faced subtle biases, missed opportunities, and the 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐲𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟. But I refused to let these barriers define my career trajectory. Here's what I learned about breaking the glass ceiling: 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝘆 I started speaking up in meetings and volunteering for high-profile projects. Build a strong network. My mentors and sponsors were instrumental in advocating for my advancement. 𝗡𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗹𝘆 I learned to ask for what I deserved, backed by data and results. 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 I consistently upskilled to stay ahead in my field. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗼 When I saw unfair practices, I spoke up and proposed solutions. The turning point came when I realized that breaking the glass ceiling wasn't just about my personal success – it was about 𝗽𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀. Each crack we make weakens the entire structure. Today, I'm proud to say I've not only advanced in my career but I'm actively working to pull others up with me. The view from the other side of that ceiling? I get this question all the time on my calls with women looking to get to the next level in their career or business. ‘Given that I’m at this stage right now, when is the best time to start working together?’ My answer every time: The sooner you start, the sooner you’ll get to where you want to be. When it comes to doing the work for personal and professional growth, what you do now will be the foundation for what you’ll achieve later. This means if you decide to do nothing now, it’ll take you longer and more effort to build the confidence to get that promotion or win that big client. You may be delaying the earning power you’d have already if you’d started sooner. Taking the plunge to invest in yourself can be scary. I know, I’ve been there! I’ve also come out the other side and am now walking the talk so that you can get to where you want to be. Navigating Career Transitions: Understanding Unwritten Rules A crucial strategy for advancing your career, especially amid changes in organisations, roles, or leadership, is to inquire and observe "how things work around here." These often unspoken norms delineate what holds value in your work environment. One of my coaching clients shared her experience, illustrating this concept vividly. In her previous workplace, success was gauged by adherence to performance management contracts. However, upon transitioning to a new role, success became contingent upon relationship-building and alignment with her boss's preferred work style. Despite her proven track record as a high performer, she initially struggled to find her footing in the new organisation. Only upon recognizing and adapting to these unwritten rules did she witness improvements in her situation. Understanding these dynamics isn't about compromising authenticity or engaging in people-pleasing. It's about cultural alignment, effectiveness, and impact. You can maintain authenticity while demonstrating agility and a commitment to ongoing development, enhancing your effectiveness and attracting opportunities for career advancement. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Had an inspiring day at Karren Brady's Women in Business & Tech Expo. As a true “Apprentice” fan, it was a privilege to hear Karren Brady and Linda Plant share their insights on resilience, leadership, and breaking barriers in business/career. Their determination, grit, assertiveness, and drive are truly inspiring. My key takeaways: From Karren Brady: 🌟 Resilience in the face of rejection is key. It’s just a moment in time. It’s only really serious if it completely stops you from what you’re doing. If not, it’s just another bump in the road. As long as you’re showing up continuously, that’s what matters. And if you don’t get that job or promotion, the most important question is: work out why and how you’re going to move past that blow. What matters is how quickly you can bounce back from rejection, how you can turn it into a positive, and how you can turn a ‘no’ into a YES. 🌟 There are two things you need in your life to be successful in your career or business: values and purpose. Also, figure out what sets you apart and how you take action. 🌟 To have a great life, you need to take care of three boxes: career, family, and yourself. Don’t forget to put as much into your own box as you do for others, and don’t allow one of those boxes to drain the rest. Life is about balance. 🌟 Take risks, because if you risk nothing, you risk everything. 🌟 The definition of hell is: Your last day on Earth, the person you became meets the person you could have become. From Linda Plant: 🌟 Just say YES! Walk through every door. Have confidence. Have a go. It’s not always luck—it’s opportunity. Take it and figure it out later. What’s the worst that can happen? If it doesn’t work out, dust yourself off and carry on. 🌟 Do not be afraid—fear will only hold you back. Seize every chance that comes your way and make the most of it. 🌟 Surround yourself with the right people. Building and maintaining strong relationships is invaluable. Relationships will take you everywhere. Finally, a fun fact: Linda has been portrayed by the media as “The Queen of Mean” on The Apprentice show, but in real life, she’s incredibly warm and kind—and utterly hilarious too!

In 2023, I assumed the role of mentor to a dynamic group of over 15 individuals, guiding them discreetly toward personal and professional growth. The rewarding experience of nurturing their development and instilling a resilient work ethic became a source of immense pride for me. As we embark on the journey into 2024, my aspirations extend beyond the confines of workplace expertise. This year marks a significant shift as I undertake the role of Social Media Manager for Akorede Toluwani. What does this role signify? In essence, it signifies a departure from mere superficial narratives. No longer content with half-hearted stories, I am committed to authentically building a public persona. My focus will be on showcasing accomplishments, ensuring due recognition for the businesses I aim to inspire and drive towards success. This year, I am selective, avoiding projects that demand absolute discretion and obscure my involvement. It's time to claim the acknowledgment I've earned through unwavering dedication to my craft. For those intrigued by the realms of Business Intelligence, the intricacies of Data, and the strategic use of technical tools to amplify profits, stay connected. I am here to facilitate a reduction in business failures this year and spare pioneers and managers the year-end lamentations often attributed to external factors.
