“We always wanted a dog, but our work and lifestyle was never compatible with full time ownership. Fostering is great for so many reasons, it enables us to have dogs at home without the worry of financial costs or hassle of day care" Eugene, Guide Dogs volunteer fosterer with partner Tim. Our new research estimates that “DINKWADs” - Dual income, no kids, with a dog - now make up 15% of dog owners in the UK with almost half (42%) admitting to delaying parenthood in favour of their canine companions 🐶 However, despite this unwavering affection, over a third are hesitant to commit to owning another dog, due to financial constraints. Becoming a Guide Dogs Fosterer or Puppy Raiser offers both DINKs (dual income, no kids) and DINKWADs the opportunity to have a dog with all costs covered alongside expert guidance, while playing a vital role in supporting people with sight loss 🐾 Read more about our research and find out all about becoming a volunteer for Guide Dogs 👉 https://bit.ly/3xJx3lL [Visual description: Guide Dogs fosterer Eugene lies on the grass in an empty park. There are a lot of homeless cats on the streets just waiting for a day like this when people will come to take them off the streets and adopt them as a member of their families. To adopt a cat, you just need to visit a pet adoption agency, and after the agency does their due diligence and everything checks out, they then go ahead with the adoption. Most domesticated cats are valued by humans for companionship, especially by people who work from home and people who live in apartments. 🐱🐈🐾 ❗ 5 Facts About Cats ❗ • They can’t taste sweetness - Cats are the only mammals that can’t taste sweetness. • They are excellent jumpers - They can jump a distance that is six times their length. • They have a lot of bones - They have 230 bones, which is more than we humans have. • They have 18 toes - Cats have five toes on each of their front paws and four toes on each of their back paws. • They have whiskers on their legs - Whiskers are on their face and at the back of their front legs. #InternationalRescueCatDay #ZempelInsurance #LakeMills #LakeMillsOffice #RescueCatDay #CatLover #PetLover #Adopt #LakeMillsInsurance #AdoptACat #CatRescue #CatAdoption #HomelessCats #FelineFriends #CatCompanionship

Why I Advocate for Service and Assistance Dogs In a world of diverse needs, service and assistance dogs emerge as companions and indispensable extensions of their human counterparts. My frequent posts and advocacy efforts stem from a deeper understanding and concern that the general public's perceptions, knowledge, and engagement—or the lack thereof—significantly impact equitable access to these essential supports. Every person deserves the freedom to live a life free from unnecessary restrictions, which is the tenet of my advocacy. However, ableism, ignorant policies and procedures, and occasionally overt discrimination frequently taint the reality we navigate. These challenges are not just inconveniences; they actively deter the integration and acceptance of individuals with disabilities in our communities. By shedding light on the roles, rights, and realities of service and assistance dogs, I aim to bridge the gap between ignorance and understanding. It's not just about ensuring access and rights; it's about fostering a culture that views every member of our society as valuable, capable, and deserving of respect and dignity. The narratives we share, the information we disseminate, and the dialogues we engage in can collectively dismantle misconceptions and combat stigma. They can pave the way for policies that genuinely reflect the needs and rights of all individuals, especially those who navigate life with the aid of a service or assistance dog. My 'why' is a call to action—a plea for empathy, understanding, and change. It's an invitation to join me in creating a more inclusive, knowledgeable, and compassionate world where the bonds between humans and their service animals are not just recognized but revered. Together, we can ensure that the value of service and assistance dogs is acknowledged and celebrated, leading to a society where equity of access isn't an aspiration but a reality. #InternationalDayOfEducation #ServiceDogs #SADogs #Assistancedogs Photo description: a young German shepherd with the words support service dog over its head. for all our dog lovers out there, Do not feed stray dogs anywhere you feel like. Yes, you heard us right. While it's absolutely great to be feeding them, there are specific guidelines you should be following when you do so. Here are some quick ones, you can keep in mind : • feed strays at designated areas • don't feed dogs in among the crowd or in a group of children around. • don't feed all the dogs at the same place. • don't force a pup to eat. feed them as much as they wish. • be kinder at all times. Make sure you take these necessary precautions and you're all set to go. How old is too old? Age should not be the sole determining factor when it comes to dog rescue. While it is important to consider the potential longevity of the dog's home, it is equally crucial to prioritise the well-being and happiness of both the dog and the individual seeking companionship. Instead of rigid age restrictions, rescue shelters could focus on assessing the individual's physical and emotional capabilities to provide proper care. Furthermore, implementing support systems for elderly adopters, such as regular check-ins or volunteer dog walkers, can ensure the dog's well-being in case of unforeseen circumstances. Let's promote inclusivity and create a world where #ageisjustanumber for dog adoptions! #CompanionshipKnowsNoAge #TheDoGeniusInstitute

At the top of the list of the major challenges in my industry are the overcrowded shelters, in my opinion. It's reached epidemic proportions, and I see no easy or quick resolution. Some are looking to manage the problem by figuring out ways to build a database to keep track of fosters. If dogs found themselves in a home that was the best home for them to begin with, it seems logical that this would decrease the number being returned. Education is vital. Adoption events provide potential dog parents the opportunity to save a life. However, cutting corners on things like adoption application questions too often backfires. Impulsive adoptions may save lives at 1st glance. Who suffers when these adoptions fail? The dogs we are desperately trying to save. Arriving at an adoption event, falling in love with a face, and having vendors on site filled with everything a new dog parent may need is convenient. However, convenience too often fails. Making a lifetime commitment to any animal an easy process opens the door to failure. Adoption is a commitment for a better forever. #dogsarefamily 🐾💞🏡
