‼️ The federal government continues to uphold a colonial hierarchy by excluding the very communities most impacted by the violence. ➡️The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (CAP) has been the national voice for off-reserve Indigenous Peoples since 1971. ➡️Representing the interests of Métis, status and Non-status Indians, and Southern Inuit Indigenous People living off-reserve across Canada. ‼️Excluding CAP from the National Indigenous-Federal-Provincial-Territorial Roundtable on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ People is denying the voices and participation of hundreds and thousands of Indigenous women, families, and survivors‼️ ‼️ Excluding CAP from discussions on MMIWG2S+ is contrary to Canada’s reconciliation commitments and violates principles outlined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). #MMIWG2S+ #mmiwawareness #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #UNDRIP #HumanRights #CDNPOLI #IFPT #whywewearred #nomorestolensisters

The Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls 2SLGBTQQIA+ crisis in Canada is ignoring the voices of off-reserve Indigenous Peoples. CAP has been a national advocate for non-status and off-reserve Indigenous peoples for over 50 years. The Supreme Court of Canada’s Daniels v. Canada decision affirmed the federal government’s responsibility to these communities. Excluding CAP from discussions on MMIWG2S+ is contrary to Canada’s reconciliation commitments and principles outlined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). GET INVOLVED: LEARN about systemic issues that contribute to the disproportionate rates of Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls & 2SLGBTQQIA+ Peoples in Canada. Be part of the solution not the problem. ADDRESS YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT on the voices of off-reserve and non status Indigenous women, girls, families, and survivors being ignored through the exclusion of CAP from the National Indigenous-Federal-Provincial-Territorial (IFPT) Roundtable on MMIWG2S and LGBTQQIA+ People. 🌿 National Indigenous Peoples Day 🌿 Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we at the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society (VIRCS) acknowledge our privilege of offering settlement services to new guests, immigrants, and refugees on the unceded land of the lək̓ʷəŋən People, known today as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. We join the nation in sharing the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. This day also solemnly reminds us of the enduring journey toward truth, reconciliation, and social justice for Indigenous communities. As we honour Indigenous peoples' traditions and resilience, we acknowledge the historical and ongoing injustices they face. At VIRCS, we are committed to supporting Indigenous-led initiatives and collaborating with Indigenous communities to promote systemic change of the pervasive discrimination and racism unfortunately still present. We recognize that true reconciliation requires continuous effort and active participation in addressing the disparities and barriers Indigenous peoples encounter. We call on our partners, friends, and community members to: 🔸 Educate ourselves, newcomers, refugees, immigrants and others about Indigenous peoples' true history and cultural heritage. 🔸 Advocate for decolonizing policies and practices that respect Indigenous rights and sovereignty. 🔸 Support Indigenous voices and leadership in all spaces. 🔸 Reflect on our own roles and responsibilities in fostering equitable and inclusive communities. We open our doors to work towards a future where Indigenous peoples can thrive in dignity and equality. #NIPD2024 #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay #TruthAndReconciliation #SocialJustice #IndigenousRights #VIRCS

🦋 United in Action: Afghan and Pakistani Women Build Bonds in Quetta’s Urban Cohesion Hub 🦋 Integrating affected populations from remote cliffs to the urban societies, the Urban Cohesion Hub, Quetta is more than just a community center; it is a sanctuary where stories of survival intertwine and new narratives of hope and unity are written. Here, Afghan women displaced by conflict and Pakistani women from the host community come together, bridging divides and fostering a unique bond that transcends borders, cultures, and histories. The Urban Cohesion Hub, established as part of a project, "Building Bridges: Fostering Social Cohesion between Forced-displaced Afghans and Host Community", designed to provide a safe space for these small business running women. Within its walls, they find access to vocational training and opportunities for self-expression. But perhaps most importantly, they find solidarity—a chance to connect with others who share their struggles and aspirations. At the incubation-lab in UCH, stitching the current-day trending and cultural embroideries, and weaving carpets for the local markets, could help the Afghan and host women earn a living to look after their families. Water, Environment and Sanitation Society (WESS) with support of GIZ Pakistan upholds many other working women to find opportunities to earn a living. UNDPUNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency

“It is essential to work together with the Government of Montenegro to prioritize #children and invest public funds towards quality services for them. First, we need new data through a new Situation analysis of the rights of children and women. This will allow better targeting of the most vulnerable, obtaining reliable data on disability, violence etc. Allocating sufficient resources from the state budget for this objective in 2025 is crucial. Further, #UNICEF stands ready to co-design solid programs and provide technical assistance for new EU instruments, such as the #ChildGuarantee and the #GrowthPlan. This will allow Montenegro to accelerate reforms for children in key sectors”, said Michele Servadei, UNICEF Montenegro Representative at today's Conference Child Rights at the Heart of the #EU accession process and #Agenda2030. 13 September is the anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). The Declaration is the most comprehensive international instrument on the rights of Indigenous peoples. It establishes a universal framework of minimum standards for the survival, dignity and well-being of the Indigenous peoples of the world. It elaborates on existing human rights standards and fundamental freedoms as they apply to the specific situation of Indigenous peoples including colonisation, dispossession and denial of cultural practices. Indigenous peoples around the world, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, were involved in its drafting. In 2007, a majority of 143 states voted in favour with 4 votes against (Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States) and 11 abstentions. Australia later endorsed UNDRIP in 2009 but there has been no implementation of Declaration principles in Australian law or policies. First Nations people in Australia are more likely to die younger than non-Indigenous Australians, face systemic racism and a higher rate of incarceration, and right now First Nations children are 10.5 times more likely be in out-of-home care than non-Indigenous children. Australia must take steps to finally implement UNDRIP into domestic law and policy making to strengthen and protect the human rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. For the first time in ECCV history, we have made a submission to the Federal Budget. Given the Australian government’s current review of the Multicultural Framework, we have identified new areas for investment that are critical to building the resilience of multicultural communities across the country. Central to this submission are recommendations to support multicultural communities with the rising cost of living, which has put many people from migrant and refugee backgrounds in severe financial and housing stress. The submission also emphasises the importance of boosting the capacity of multicultural communities to respond to emergencies, combat racism, deepen relationships with First Peoples, improve inclusion for people with disability, and secure the rights of migrant workers. No brainer for me.... Corporations should lead the way and declare their alignment to UNDRIP as part of their ESG commitment. The Liberal government’s repeated refusal to treat CAP as an equal participant in MMIWG2S+ discussions perpetuates a dangerous, fictional hierarchy within Indigenous advocacy‼️It further sidelines some of the most vulnerable Indigenous communities at a time when they need their voices heard the most. ‼️CAP will continue to call on the federal government to recognize its legal and moral obligation to engage with all Indigenous peoples, without discrimination, and ensure that off-reserve, non-status, and urban Indigenous women are fully included in critical policy discussions. ⚖️ “ The issue of #MMIWG2S+ doesn’t end on reserve. The voices of all Indigenous women must be heard, and any exclusion is a violation of dignity and human rights.” - CAP National Chief Brendan Moore. ‼️This exclusion is unacceptable. The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples | Congrès des peuples autochtones (CAP) has been a national advocate for Métis, status and Non-status Indians, and Southern Inuit Indigenous People living off-reserve in Canada for over 50 years‼️ #CDNPoli #SENCan #IndigenousRights #MMIWG2S+ #Canada #Reconciliation #SocialJustice #HumanRights #IndigenousIssues

Independence Day Message As we commemorate the anniversary of the independence of our beloved nation, we consider what true freedom and justice really entail. Independence represents the spirit of optimism, equality, and the release of every person from exploitation and harm, and it goes beyond national sovereignty in the eyes of Patriotic Citizen Initiatives. As we wear the helms of enthusiasm, we are vividly aware that the promise of freedom has not yet been realized for many, especially our women, children, and youth. Numerous fundamental rights are still being violated by human trafficking and migrant smuggling, which turns hopeful thoughts of freedom into terrifying realities of captivity. Patriotic Citizens Initiatives is at the forefront of speaking up for people whose futures are at risk and whose voices are suppressed because of these offences. Nobody's potential, liberty, or dignity should ever be taken away, in our opinion. In order to achieve true independence, where no one is subjected to exploitation and where children, women, and young people can live in safety and have the chance to influence their own destiny, it is necessary to combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling. Let us reaffirm our dedication to our cause on this Independence Day. Together, let's create a world free from human trafficking, where everyone can live in freedom, and where human rights are upheld. In order to create a society where independence is not just celebrated but a lived reality for every person, it is imperative that we continue to advocate for justice, support others, and promote awareness. Supporting one another and fighting for justice are crucial first steps towards creating a society in which each person's experience of independence is lived, not simply celebrated. We urge all citizens, communities, and governments to stand with us in this battle as we move forward. By safeguarding the weakest members of our society, let us preserve the principles of freedom and make sure that no one is ever subjected to the shackles of human trafficking or exploitation. Wishing everyone a happy Independence Day and success in achieving true freedom by our joint efforts. #Independence #NACTAL Nigeria #IOM Nigeria #NAPTIP #STOP HUMAN Trafficking #EU #UN #NCFRMI #ICMPD #PCI Migrant Project #PCI Campaign Activity
