Ever wondered why hard hats are mostly yellow? 🤔 It's not just a fashion statement! Yellow is highly visible and signals caution, something we're all about in construction - especially when it comes to finding the right talent. In the UK construction sector, we're seeing a real shift. 🏗️ The demand for skilled professionals has skyrocketed, with a 77% increase in job vacancies over the past year (Office for National Statistics). That's a lot of boots to fill! But here's the interesting part: despite the surge, there's a growing preference for quality over quantity. Companies are looking for candidates who not only have the skills but fit the culture and ethos of their teams. It's like finding the perfect piece for your jigsaw puzzle - it just clicks. And for those on the job hunt? It's not just about the paycheck. Recent surveys show that 63% of construction professionals value a healthy work-life balance above all else. They're looking for roles that offer flexibility and growth, not just the next project. So, whether you're building careers or constructing skyscrapers, let's talk about what's shaping our industry: ✅ What trends are you noticing in construction recruitment? ✅ How are you balancing the demand for talent with the desire for the right fit? ✅ Job seekers, what's on your wishlist for your next role? **Readie Construction Ltd EMPLOYEES - SOME TIPS** Please, for your sake, try and avoid using jobs boards (at least initially). Reach out to the hiring managers or HR managers of those you considered competition. Companies like Glencar, Mark Bilbrough Magrock, Parkway Construction MK Limited, VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd, Now Construction Limited etc. You do not want your CV out with the world, landing on peoples desks 10 times. If you are not comfortable going direct, reach out to an experienced Recruiter or two who work in your field, who can talk about what you do and who understands your market, has relationships and is technically sound. I recommend ideally 2, see what they have and if needed go to a 3rd. Make sure they confirm what they are doing with your CV, who they are sending it to. If you do wish to use job boards, try and keep your CV/profile hidden. You will have an option for this when signing up or in settings. If you do not do this, it will allow the thousands of Recruiters who use that job board to see your details and will result in you getting flooded with calls and become overwhelming for some. When Recruiters talk to you about a job, very rarely can they not tell you who the client is, who the hiring manager is and what the process is. If they struggle to give you this information without a very reasonable explanation, the chances are they do not have a relationship. I have connected with a few Readie Construction Ltd employees and will directly reach out to those I have specific roles for and others, I will hold off messaging as you will get flooded on here too but I will use our connection to monitor if you start somewhere and keep you on the radar for other opportunities that I secure in the coming weeks. I do understand that at the moment you may be in shock, you may want a few days to think about things but please also remember, your friends and former colleagues may now also be interviewing for the same role you want, so I do recommend to be proactive, so you don't miss out. Below are the current roles I have, along with a Design bias Preconstruction role in north Hertfordshire. If you see anything you feel may suit, drop me a message and I will have a chat. Good luck, sorry you find yourself in this position but we do always see the construction market pull together when things like this happen, so let's do that again. #32recruit

📢 Not my normal typical post, but sometimes you just have to get some things off your chest. Construction recruitment is a tough industry and since SiteCrew set up in 2017, the past 6 months have certainly been the most testing and challenging. We have faced a lot of obstacles in our time and here are some of the stumbling blocks we have faced in recent times. - Candidates declining an offer at final stage because of counter offer or some other excuse. - Clients going cold on us when a deal is ready to be sealed with a candidate. (For no unknown reason) - Limited feedback on candidates submitted. - Refusal to reply to email/phone calls etc (mainly by clients) Everyone is busy but this does not take long. - Long standing client relationships in limbo. - Promises of future projects not materializing. Remember, we do not get paid until a candidate is placed so there is quite a bit of spade work done in earnest beforehand. It's a challenging time for a lot of companies and the one common trend that came out of lockdown, was to support the small companies as much as possible. This is now forgotten about. Most prefer to feed the bigger fish. As a recruiter, I never send a CV to a client unless I get prior approval from the candidate. I know a lot of Recruiters just send out without consent. Yet, it's a first come, first served basis regardless of consent. As a small company trying our best, all we ask for is your support. I have always prided myself on being straight and honest and having the ability to build strong relationships with clients and candidates. If you prefer to deal with the bigger companies, then your honesty would be respected. Business is business, but the small companies are once again, being forgotten about. That's where we are at. Rant over. 😡
