Today is World Autism Awareness Day! Every 1st Responder needs the training and the tools necessary to redirect harmful or destructive behaviors triggered by sensory overload. I proudly team with The Synapsory to help bridge the gap between law enforcement and families that routinely deal with sensory crisies. Synapsory Calming Kits are instrumental in easing sensory overload and bringing crisis incidents to a peaceful resolution. You can learn more about Calming Kits at thesynapsory.org.

I don’t normally get very personal on here, but this is a great YouTube series for those looking to understand more about Autism and AuDHD, especially late diagnosis.
It makes me really appreciate my support network - both personal and professional - even if had to make myself vulnerable to ask for it (big fan of masking - not a fan of real emotion).
I’ve been wrestling with the late diagnosis for almost 2 years now - and it amazes me daily why it wasn’t caught earlier because the signs were so clearly there.
Since then, each day is a new challenge, but I’ve made it this far and I’m doing pretty darn good! I’ll still always prefer written to verbal communication - and a well prepared agenda for meetings or script if it’s a large group presentation. But I’ve let go of my guilt about not being “great” at a meeting when I get asked unexpected questions. But I also give myself kudos for being able to present to a 600+ crowd with a teleprompter when needed! I’ll get caught up in a spreadsheet and lose track of time for hours (adore a good spreadsheet) and I love a good process improvement brainstorm session. But some things are going to send me into a meltdown or shutdown. And I need to be ok with not being ok sometimes. I don’t have to be perfect. I can be human and give myself the same grace I’d give anyone else in the same situation.
