Back in May, we had the privilege of sitting down with Mark Preston Aragonès, from our vice-Chair, Bellona Europa, to discuss the role of CCS in mitigating climate change, Bellona’s contribution to the deployment of CCS and what needs to be done to deploy CCS at EU and national levels. Bellona is doing incredible work in pushing the EU's CCS agenda forward and we are thrilled to continue our collaboration to #MakeCCSHappen. In his interview, Mark: 🏭 Reminded us why CCS is such an essential tool for climate mitigation when focused on process emissions. 🌎 Highlighted the importance of developing a comprehensive geological atlas of storage sites for the deployment of CCS. 🏗 Called on the EU and its Member States to better coordinate their work in developing cross-border infrastructure projects. Don't miss the full interview to hear Mark’s expert insights on the future of the EU's CCS framework! Watch the video below and join us on our journey to net-zero.🌿🔍 #NoNetZeroWithoutCCS

🏭 To meet the EU’s climate targets, industry must decarbonise via #electrification, deploying renewable energies and tackling its unavoidably generated CO₂ through abatement technologies such as Carbon Capture and Storage #CCS. In a recent interview with CCS Europe, our Senior Policy Manager, Mark Preston Aragonès, dives into the crucial role of CCS in climate change mitigation, where the focus is on process emissions. Local governments have the responsibility and the burden to implement the transition policies, but they have little say in deciding the content of the norms they must execute in their territories. 🗺️ This has consequences for a fair and effective implementation of the Green Deal itself. 🌳 Why? Because there is no “one solution that fits all”. This is why, together with the other 7 Local Networks, we have sent a letter to the Commission: to ensure the transition, we need to have coherence between the Commission's ambitions and the development needs of local governments. Happening tomorrow! EESI is partnering with the World Resources Institute (WRI) to bring you a briefing about ocean carbon dioxide removal (CDR). In addition to rapid emission reductions, reaching global climate goals will require large-scale removal of excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Ocean CDR (the practice of removing and storing carbon from the ocean) is garnering an increasing amount scientific, governmental, and private sector interest. Panel: 🌊 Katie Lebling, Associate II in Carbon Removal and Industrial Decarbonization, World Resources Institute 🌊 Savita Bowman, Senior Program Manager of Carbon Management, ClearPath 🌊 Edward Sanders Chief Operating Officer, Equatic.tech 🌊 Sara Wanous, Government Relations Manager, Ocean Conservancy 🌊 Gabby Kitch, PhD, Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal Lead of the Ocean Acidification Program, NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration 🐠 With introductory remarks by Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) RSVP to attend this briefing in person or online: https://lnkd.in/eJsyv6zy #Oceans #OceanCDR #CarbonDioxide #Mitigation #ClimateAction

Our demands on the ocean are increasing. As noted in Jouffray et al. (2020), there are diverse and sometimes competing interests for ocean food, material, and space during a period of intense, climate-driven change. For that reason, we need to ensure that international and cross-sector dialogues like the 2025 UN Ocean Conference prioritize action on ocean-climate solutions like offshore wind and other emerging joint solutions to our global crises for climate and nature. If you'll be at the preparatory meeting for UNOC, let me know! My boss Lauren Uppink Calderwood will be there to advocate for offshore wind as a pillar of next year's UNOC and would love to meet. #oceanclimate #biodiversity #climatechange #offshorewind Read the paper here: The Blue Acceleration: The Trajectory of Human Expansion into the Ocean (blueclimateinitiative.org); summary slide from SRC.
