Joint Economic Development Districts offer a way to restructure public and private relationships from hierarchical and adversarial to more beneficial partnerships. Through tax infrastructure financing and community reinvestment, JEDDs enable communities to take part in the benefits of well-done, smart and thoughtful development. This is an ideal way in which to take the income tax revenues that are generated by new growth and then redistribute and direct it in a really smart way. Communities in Southwest Licking County have benefited from the JEDD around the SR 310 interchange in Etna Township, and this opportunity exists for communities along the SR 161 corridor such as Johnstown and Northridge. Through 1031 exchanges, owners along those corridors can reinvest money, which could lead to a ripple effect with land prices that other surrounding communities may also benefit from. #SiliconHeartland #Investment #PropertyValues #LickingCounty

Strong Towns' latest podcast and YouTube video really speaks indirectly to the current state of housing plans and planning legislation in Ontario. Regarding the idea of low density sprawl to provide supply for the housing crisis, Chuck Marohn of Strong Towns has this to say: "I don't think a policy that builds more homes but bankrupts the city is one that I am interested in pursuing. I don't think we have to make that kind of trade-off to have housing that is broadly affordable." I recommend listening for yourself; Chuck dives deeper into these issues better than anyone and has such a great, well rounded perspective. Well worth your time. We Are in a Housing Trap. What an amazing discussion between Mark Richardson from HousingNowTO and Li Koo on creating affordable and accessible housing options. Mark, the founder and Technical Lead of HousingNowTO, shares insights on leveraging #publicland, engaging with stakeholders, and streamlining processes. One standout point was emphasizing the importance of ensuring everyone has the same baseline data information and access to data. At Ratio.City, we designed a web-based platform that's easy to use and collects all the available data, allowing you to access it anytime and visualize your projects in context instantly. We believe that the private and public sectors need to have a common language if we want to build more houses, faster.
