New grads, this one's for you! Graduated and lost? Let’s map out your resume together and find your path! We've all been there. It’s tough when your experience is limited and you’re trying to make a splash. But don’t worry! Here are some game-changing tips to help you stand out without resorting to filler fluff. 1. Less is More Over-explaining every bullet point can make your resume look bloated and hard to read. Focus on your most impressive duties and keep your bullet points concise. Recruiters don't expect extensive professional histories from entry-level candidates. 2. Skip the Objective Objective statements are often overlooked or can even hurt your chances. Instead, let your skills and experiences do the talking. If you must include something at the top, consider a brief summary that highlights your key strengths. 3. Volunteer Work Counts! Don’t hesitate to include volunteer work, internships, and relevant coursework. These experiences demonstrate your capabilities and commitment. They’re just as valuable as paid positions, especially when you’re starting out. 4. Time Will Fill Out Your Resume Your first job is a stepping stone. Focus on getting your foot in the door. The rest will follow as you gain experience and build your career. Need More Help? If you're looking for personalized advice, a custom resume, or a cover letter, reach out. I recently interviewed two candidates- One candidate had a perfect resume and the other one shared curiosity…. Who gets the job? This is how the story goes 👇 👤 The guy with a perfect resume resonates well with the skills and experience. 👤 The other one on the other hand, had a basic resume but our conversation over the phone really made a difference. This is how it went: My phone call with first candidate He had required skills 👍 He had the experience 👍 But… He was simply robotic over the call 👎 Did not show any interest in the company but on the pay scale 👎 Did not ask a single question about our journey and future vision 👎 Kept on repeating the same keywords again and again 👎 🤙 My phone call with the second candidate He was curious about the profile 👍 🖊️ He pen down every skill required for the job, and explained how he used those skills during his live project and internship 👍 He was curious to know more about me (not in a shoe-licking way!) 👍 He did his homework about the company 👍 He told me about his passion for Data 👍 We spoke like humans 👥 And I was convinced…. I wanted to hire the second candidate. Sometimes, you just have to overlook the resume and hire the person for their attitude. Skills can be taught, but genuine passion and a thirst for knowledge are hard to fake. #Resume #attitude #skills

As a recruiter, I review hundreds of resumes per week. I don't have time to spend 1 minute per resume so here's what I look at mostly: 1) Numbers of years of experience in the relevant role/industry (Make sure to highlight it in your resume summary) 2) Job title vs industry standards (If your company use a weird job title, try to replace it with industry standards. To know what are these standards, look at the job ads that you are aligned with, you should see a trend) 3) Keywords (I won't read your resume from beginning to end, adding the keywords relevant to the role in bold is helpful) 4)Years of graduation for graduate roles or internships (don't forget to add the years of graduation or planned graduation if applying to this kind of role) 5) Career progression (If you've been in the same company for 7 years and have been promoted multiple times, say it. Don't just add your latest job title, it looks like there were no career movements. You can add a sentence below the job title adding what position you were originally hired for and how you've been promoted over the years) You got this! 💛 Fellow recruiters: to help people who are working on their resume even more, what else do you look at? Please add in the comment! #recruitertips #resumetips

📝 Resume Length: How Long Should It Be? 📝 One of the most common questions we receive is, "How long should my resume be?" Here's what our experts recommend: 🔹 Entry-Level and Early Career Professionals: Aim for a concise, one-page resume. Focus on highlighting your education, key skills, internships, and relevant experiences. 🔹 Mid-Level Professionals: A one to two-page resume is appropriate. Include detailed descriptions of your work experience, achievements, and any certifications or skills that are relevant to the position you’re applying for. 🔹 Senior-Level and Executives: Your resume can extend to two pages or slightly more if necessary. Emphasize your leadership roles, significant accomplishments, strategic contributions, and executive-level skills. ✴ Pro Tip: Quality over quantity! It's essential to ensure every word on your resume adds value and is tailored to the job you’re targeting. Always prioritize clarity, relevance, and impact over length. Landing On-Campus Jobs: As an International Student In two years at UMass Boston, I went from job-hunting novice to receiving six on-campus job offers. Here are the essentials from what I've learned: 1. Understand the Job - Dive deep into the job description to tailor your application and interview responses, showcasing how you can add value. 2. Authentic Cover Letters - Stand out with sincerity. Avoid templated content; hiring managers can spot insincerity a mile away. Personalize your interest in the role. 3. Tailored Resumes - Forget one-size-fits-all. Adjust your resume for each application to highlight relevant skills and experiences that match what employers are looking for. 4. Professional Follow-ups - Balance enthusiasm with respect for the employer's time. Opt for scheduled meetings over unannounced drop-ins. 5. Interview Skills - Treat interviews as two-way conversations. Be honest and straightforward, focusing on mutual discovery. 6. Embrace Every Achievement - Remember, no accomplishment is too small. Highlight all experiences relevant to the position, demonstrating the breadth of your skills and the lessons you've learned. 7. Be Genuine - Resist the urge to embellish. Authenticity is key as employers can easily detect inconsistencies. 8. Patience and Persistence - The job hunt can be tough but stay the course. Each application and interview is a step forward. Embracing these strategies not only led to job offers but also invaluable learning experiences. To my fellow international students: persist, be authentic, and success will follow.

3 Tips of Crafting an Impressive Resume; that works everytime! ♠️ Appropriate Formatting “Strategically placing the right elements in their optimal positions" is key to crafting a resume that exudes simplicity and sophistication, setting it apart in a sea of applications. For instance, opting for a refined gray and white theme rather than a conventional black and white theme can help your resume stand out, all while ensuring compatibility with ATS systems. ♠️ Establishing Credibility Demonstrating the legitimacy of your suitability for the desired position is paramount. This entails showcasing your authentic skills and competencies that align seamlessly with the job description. The emphasis here is on honest representation, avoiding embellishments or hyperbole. ♠️ Achieving Clarity Your resume should unmistakably convey your specialization and unwavering commitment to the targeted role. Precision and conciseness are the cornerstones; presenting your professional trajectory in a way that leaves no room for ambiguity, effectively conveying your dedication to the prospective employer.
