MWhen tragedy unexpectedly shows up at the workplace, the behaviors of the leaders reveal much to employees. As a seasoned HR leader, I’ve experienced a few things. I have two death by suicide experiences to draw from, personally, and will be sharing wisdom from a dozen other trusted professionals in the field. As the narrow spaces between work+life are impacted by tragedy, employees need compassion, care, and confidence in their leadership. Join us to build a plan for the unimaginable. I have come to understand this: people show you who they are. When someone shows up at their worst - that's unfortunately who they are. When they show up at their best, it's who they can be. Tragedy revels much. I exist to help organizations DO the good they say they want to do. I exist to help managers BE the good managers that create conditions for flourishment. I exist to help employees FEEL the good that comes from doing the best work of their lives. Fully alive. Fully appreciated. Fully engaged. Join the conversation today at lunchtime. Link in comments.

It would be remiss to go through mental health awareness month without speaking about the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Research has found employers and colleagues can hold a belief that people with mental illness need more supervision, that they lack initiative, or that they are unable to deal with clients. This is the beginning of a vicious cycle. The need for psychological safety is very real. Work is a major stressor, and if the environment is not supportive it can prevent employees from asking for assistance and worsen symptoms significantly. Leaders, being open about your own experiences is incredibly powerful here. Being honest and vulnerable is an effective way to build psychological safety and if you're employees feel safe and accepted they will feel more comfortable asking for the support they need. #PsychologicalSafety #MentalHealthAwareness #Vulnerability
