Great to be at H/Advisors Cicero event on The Hundred Year Life this morning. So much food for thought on how we meet the needs of a population that will live for longer, potentially living with multiple conditions, and surviving for longer with conditions where this previously might not have been the case. How do we ensure we're living well while living for longer? For me one of my take away questions was how well do the general public understand the healthcare system and the way in which they can use it? We know that 25 million people visit their GP and 5 million to A&E for self-treatable conditions, causing greater strain on the healthcare system. How can we fully empower people to know how to find support for their health, prior to crisis point, from all aspects of healthcare, from over-the-counter medicines, to pharmacies, to primary care and community care?

Why does it matter whether we receive our end-of-life care from a religiously-affiliated healthcare system? Here’s what’s in jeopardy: • Full transparency and the right to know. • Individual rights to care that align with our values/preferences. • Access for underserved communities where there are few or no safety net providers. • And more. Public health is the foundation of a thriving society. As Thomas R. Frieden reminds us, it is not a separate entity but the sum of all healthcare efforts combined. Together, we build healthier communities. #SRMIST #SRMSchoolofPublicHealth #SRMSPH #CommunityHealth #PublicHealthPractice #srm_pov #srmktr #srmuniversity #srmknowledge #Motivation
