A key part of our mission is shifting the behavior of business. By adopting new governance models and improving social and environmental performance in line with our standards, businesses not only make a positive difference but also set powerful examples for others, paving the way for broader change. But we don’t stop there: across our network, B Lab runs local and regional programs to equip leaders with practical tools for continuous improvement. A standout initiative is the Impact Improvement Program led by B Lab US & Canada in 2023. This eight-week program, facilitated by DEI mindset coaches from Beyond Inclusion Group, helps B Corps explore racial equity practices and policies. Participants committed 3 ½ hours each week to learn about employee wealth-building, fair-chance hiring, inclusive recruitment and retention, and setting goals for accountability. The 11th r3.0 International (online) Conference 'Tipping Points on Tipping Points - Building Necessary Collapse Resilience' on September 10/11 has four main themes, each with extraordinary speakers. Day Two of the Conference kicks off with the Third Session, whose launching point is our 'Just Transitions to Regenerative Economies & Cultures' Blueprint. The Session spotlights four of our interviewees whose thinking and practice serve as the foundational research informing the Blueprint, which seeks to synthesize a broad diversity of approaches and actions into a coherent overview of the options before us to navigate into collapse resilience. Heartfelt thanks to the Winston Churchill Trust (Australia). In 2012 a Churchill fellowship allowed me to visit Elder Clown programs in UK, Europe and North America. My findings lay the foundations for the Laughter Care program of The Humour Foundation. This arts-in-health program brings joy and uplifting human connection to residents in Aged Care, in particular those who are amongst the 1 in 3 who experience social isolation and the more than 50% who are living with dementia. The Churchill Trust is supporting me to develop an impact measurement framework and tool to measure the impact of the Laughter Care program. The tool will measure and articulate resident experiences and health outcomes as well as benefits to staff, carers and families. It will provide essential data to support organisations to implement the program, thus expanding the breadth and impact of this very effective contribution to bringing joy and dignity to some of our most vulnerable Australians. Again, humble thanks to this wonderfully enabling Trust.

I’ve found myself in a unique position as a global stakeholder in Social Media Harm Reduction ( #USA ) and human / societal behavior. It’s fascinating to witness how the world has shifted, with many of the changes unfolding exactly as I predicted often with a level of accuracy beyond what’s required to be considered an expert. Because of this, I’ve earned recognition as a pioneer in this space. It’s one thing to work within an established industry and eventually leave it. But it’s an entirely different challenge to build something from scratch, creating both the framework and the culture around it. Doing so in a capitalist country while collaborating with non-capitalist nations adds a layer of complexity, especially when it comes to navigating the moral and ethical dilemmas that arise. What the public sees is only a fraction of what’s truly happening. Very few people understand the full scope of what has already occurred. At any point, I could step back and walk away from it all, but doing so would have far reaching consequences affecting societies, educational systems, public health departments, and even parliaments, both in the U.S. and globally. https://lnkd.in/dj39iuQQ ( Global Website )

The 11th r3.0 International (online) Conference 'Tipping Points on Tipping Points - Building Necessary Collapse Resilience' on September 10/11 has four main themes, each with extraordinary speakers. The Fourth Session is focused on our signature issue of Thresholds & Allocations. Thresholds approximate where systems transgress their carrying capacities and so enter the danger zone where tipping points can be crossed at any moment, triggering systemic collapses. As Mark McElroy first established in his 2008 dissertation, carrying capacity transgressions apply not only to ecological system overshoot, but also social system undershoot (hence our use of the term "caring capacity".) Allocations require all actors to take accountability for their fair share responsibility of respecting systemic carrying capacities. Mahlet Getachew will round out the Session by previewing the future direction of thresholds & allocations by presenting on the Business Standards for 21st Century Leadership that the Corporate Racial Equity Alliance is developing (currently in a public consultation draft), which integrate key elements of thresholds & allocations such as duties & obligations and context-based materiality.
