Senior Vice President Refinery and Terminal operations, Oil products at Neste, Member of the board Soilfood Oy
Is a safety moment part of your meeting agenda? At Neste it certainly is and we are doing our best that we will not get surprised by snow, ice or below zero temperature. Working at a production site means that you always need to think “safety first” and being prepared for winter is essential for ensuring process safety in Finland. Checking our readiness for winter starts already during late summer and the whole winter preparation process takes weeks before we are ready for yet another cold season. In addition to work we are reminded to turn the winter safety mode on even before arriving at work by minding the winter conditions not only when driving a car, but also wearing non slippery shoes and reflectors whenever in traffic. This is very important especially now when weather conditions change almost daily and daylight gets shorter. Starting every single meeting with a safety moment has brought up to discussion many observations and also learnings on how to mitigate risks with personnel or process. For us it is a simple and gentle way to execute one of our values “We care”. https://lnkd.in/dPt8H2Xj #safetyfirst

A safe event is a memorable event. Safety isn't a mere add-on to event planning - it's the vital organ that keeps everything pumping. Attendees expect more than entertainment, but also the assurance of their well-being. It’s about cultivating a culture where safety isn’t just a checkbox but a core value. From inception to conclusion, every facet of the event should be filtered through a safety lens. This involves meticulous planning, rigorous training, and unwavering commitment to attendee well-being. By prioritising safety, as an event organiser, you not only fulfil your ethical duty but also enhance your event's reputation. Every day, we are working towards our target of zero accidents. Recently, a safety record was broken in Poland. Our Dąbrowa Górnicza coil service center processes high-quality stainless steel flat products, providing a wide range of cut-to-length, slitting and polishing services. On Sunday 3 December, it achieved its 10th year with no incidents. - Outokumpu has the same safety standards for all sites and service centers have low incident rates. What makes Poland to achieve zero accidents in 10 years, is the close collaboration between the colleagues, which has led to current mature stage of safety: there is a high trust among colleagues, and everyone is taking care of each other. As this case has shown us, with a decade of no safety incidents, it is possible to achieve our target of zero accidents. We will continue working towards the target by embracing a mindset of continuous improvement, which involves consistently challenging the status quo. This proactive approach not only enables us to identify potential safety risks but also empowers us to take decisive measures to mitigate them effectively, comments Thorsten Piniek, VP, Health and Safety.
