In this video message, Anton Asfar, Secretary General of Caritas Jerusalem, discusses the tough realities they’re facing in Gaza. Despite their best efforts to provide food, supplies, and medical care, the situation is still incredibly challenging. With only nine medical centers still operating in the conflict zone, their teams are working from temporary shelters to meet the urgent needs of the people. The strain on dignity is evident, especially in the tired faces of children, women, and the elderly. “ 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲, 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱.” - 𝘢 𝘞𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘯𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦 In the aftermath of October 7th, much of the world’s attention has focused on the devastation and suffering in the Gaza Strip. Yet, Gaza is sadly not the only place where life-saving medical care is intentionally restricted or outright denied. In Hebron, where MSF has been working since 1996, psychological trauma, physical injuries, loss of livelihood and lack of access to the most basic necessities -starting with water water- have become an everyday reality for far too many people. In response to increased movement restrictions and escalating violence MSF significantly expanded its medical and mental health activities in Hebron. We increased our mobile clinics from 5 to 15 locations to better support displaced communities and those cut off from essential care…. And by so doing we found ourselves at the receiving end of a sustained campaign again healthcare providers—including attacks on ambulances, medical facilities, staff, and patients. We are launching this week a new report that draws from this operational experience. Pieced together, our medical data and the testimonies of our volunteers, staff and patients paint a stark picture of deliberate violence, harassment and oppression in the West Bank. We once more call on Israeli authorities to respect and uphold International Humanitarian Law, ensuring unimpeded access to essential services, including healthcare, and guaranteeing the safety of those in need. #notatarget 👉 Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gWGbe75S 👉 Find out more about the situation and MSF's work in Palestine: https://lnkd.in/guUxrR4A

This is the reality of indiscriminate warfare … it is not ‘war’ in the sense of selecting targets, it is making a whole area and everyone and everything in it the target, irrespective of whether that actually includes enemy forces. This kind of attack contravenes the laws of armed conflict because no specific targets have been identified, thus a proportionality calculation cannot be made. I have heard this kind of action referred to as ‘blind attacks’ - and to some extent that’s an accurate description - except that the ‘blindness’ is intentional - the aim is maximum human casualties regardless of their age or combatant status and maximum destruction. Thus, especially in heavily populated urban areas, the impact will always be disproportionate. The horrors described in this MSF report are not a new phenomenon, but because of the concentration of non-combatants, especially children, in Gaza the impact of such offensives are multiplied and entirely predictable. It is not credible that Israeli commanders are unaware of the effects on the population, this is, without doubt, an intentional strategy.
The consequences of the crisis in #Gaza are affecting children at an alarming rate. “Most of these children arrived without any parents, without any family, that were screaming for their parents, screaming for their family," shares Faris Al-Jawad, who worked with Doctors Without Borders as an Communications Manager in Gaza. Hospitals we support receive an overwhelming number of children with debilitating injuries due to ongoing bombardments on or outside their homes. Burn injuries, missing limbs and severely infected war-related wounds due to lack of medical care are all among the injuries MSF has treated children in Gaza for since the start of the war. #rafah Extremely INTENSE BOMBING NO PLACE to SHELTER 600,000 CHILDREN - SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND CHILDREN - 1.3 MILLION CIVILIANS are subjected to this HORROR 24/7 while we drive our kids to school, drop off our dry cleaning, sip our coffee at our office desk… HOW can WE continue OUR lives and accept this from OUR GOVERNMENTS? If we see a child about to get hit by a car, we would DROP our groceries/ jump in the street/ grab the child to get them out of harms way. WHY aren’t WE doing the SAME for the 600,000 CHILDREN being carpet bombed in Rafah? WHAT are WE AFRAID of? Losing our job? Getting arrested? Missing the down payment on our college loans/ car/ house? The reason students/ low income/ minority groups are fearlessly braving SWAT team police on the streets and campuses is because society has no real hold on them, many of society’s privileges are kept out of their reach, the fight against APARTHEID OPPRESSION is THEIR fight too. The ones who NEED to STEP UP and SHAKE UP the “business as usual” consumerist model are the ones WHO actually have ALL their COMFORTS, SECURITY and PRIVILEGES to lose. SLAVERY was not abolished because the enslaved wanted to be free, no - it was the people who BENEFITED ECONOMICALLY from slavery that needed to CHANGE their LIFESTYLE RADICALLY in order for slavery to END. WE NEED to COLLECTIVELY STOP EVERYTHING and BOYCOTT SOCIETY itself: close down schools, businesses, truck deliveries & STOP CONSUMING NON-ESSENTIALS (entertainment, traveling…). CONSUMERIST SOCIETY only has POWER OVER US if we BUY into the CONSUMERIST model of success & happiness. CONTRARY to what cynical marketing would like us to believe, happiness is not what gives meaning to life, it is the ability to connect with humanity and be part of a caring and supportive social network that gives meaning and deep satisfaction in life. “SACRIFICING” consumer goods is actually LIBERATING; it FREES our SOULS from the constant FEAR of not having enough/ losing the privileges we worked so hard to gain… Actually, if our children do not go to college, if we don’t own a home, if we don’t go to a trendy summer resort, it is NOT the end of the world & it does NOT decrease our value as a human being. KEEPING UP with the JONESES (who are DEEP FAKE by the way) will NEVER make anyone truly “happy” NOW is the time to FIGHT like there is NO TOMORROW, because if we don’t, WE ALL have the BLOOD and TRAUMA of 2.5 MiLLiON PALESTINIANS on our hands and will have KILLED our SOULS in the process. We don’t get to delay action because we are not “ready” to change. When we see a child in imminent danger of drowning, we jump in the pool to save them with our clothes & shoes on and our new phone still in our pocket. No matter how expensive the leather shoes were, no matter how many more installments we still had to pay for the phone we just bought, we still DIVE in the pool because we couldn’t live with ourselves if we watched that kid drown to avoid ruining our shoes and phone.

It's heart-wrenching to imagine witnessing such horrific events. The scars of violence run deep, leaving lasting imprints on the soul. No child should endure such trauma, and it's disheartening to think about the innocent lives caught in conflicts like the Israel-Hamas war or any other war or violence. In the midst of these conflicts, it's crucial to stand for humanity, transcending national boundaries. The anguish and despair I felt while witnessing my parent's blood ooze out of their deep cut injuries while dogs feasting on the same pieces that jumped out of the cut areas resonate with the suffering of the children caught in the crossfire, their innocence shattered by the brutality of the world around them. As for the countries involved in the Israel-Hamas conflict, it's a complex situation with deep-rooted historical and political dimensions. Acknowledging the pain without taking sides is a testament to a commitment to humanity over political affiliations. Credit to Amina Abdi Abubakar for shedding light on these harrowing stories. Social media platforms like Instagram can be powerful tools to raise awareness and foster empathy. Being in such a position, feeling the weight of witnessing unspeakable acts of violence, is an indescribable burden. The nightmares, the haunting images, and the constant fear are a heavy load to carry. The scars are not only physical but etched deep into the psyche, demanding healing that goes beyond the physical wounds. It's essential to highlight the need for trauma support, especially for children who are the most vulnerable in these situations. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment can be a lifeline for those grappling with the aftermath of violence. #StandForHumanity #HealingThroughEmpathy #ChildrenDeservePeace #TraumaAwareness #humanrights #childrenrights #AminaAbdiAwareness #hamanitarian #emergenceyresponse Link:Amina Abdi Rabar Instagram ©® https://lnkd.in/dfQyNAcs Emergency Management Save the Children International The Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Humanitarian Response Network of Canada POMS - College of Humanitarian Operations and Crisis Management Violence Intervention Program Violence Prevention Education Conference CBSS Children at Risk STV Children's Appeal

It is not about politics, or any kind of phobia, it's about... Humanity. UNRWA https://lnkd.in/gwHJbq3i "Conditions Inside UNRWA Shelters Living conditions are growing increasingly dire every day. Picture up to 70 people sharing a single classroom, with limited water, sanitation, and basic necessities. Tensions and distress are palpable among displaced individuals, compounded by relentless airstrikes and bombardments. Thanks to your support, UNRWA is sheltering as many people as this dire situation allows. Casualties Since October 7, a tragic total of 4,137 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip, including 1,661 children. An additional 1,400 people are missing under the rubble of destroyed buildings, including 720 children. UNRWA flags are at half mast as a further 13 UNRWA staff was confirmed killed yesterday, making the total 29 since 7 October. Rest in peace to these brave workers, and our deepest condolences to their families. Urgent medical needs With 13,400 persons with non-communicable diseases and over 3,200 pregnant women among the IDPs, UNRWA's medical stocks are running extremely low. UNRWA is providing health care in 90 shelters through 77 mobile medical teams and 80 mobile medical points. But to continue these efforts, they desperately need more resources.'' That's where can come in.

📢 #Lebanon is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. With hundreds of civilian casualties, mass displacement, and over a million people forced to flee their homes in Beirut and the south and east of the country, the situation is rapidly deteriorating. 🏥 The healthcare system, already crippled by years of economic turmoil, is struggling to cope. The St. Antoine Community Health Center in Roueissat, Beirut – supported by GSIF – has become the primary healthcare facility for internally displaced families, providing first aid and urgent medical care that overburdened hospitals can no longer handle. In this critical situation, the Good Shepherd Sisters and healthcare staff remain in position, providing essential relief. As the violence continues to escalate, the number of displaced persons is expected to rise sharply in the coming days. Now more than ever, swift and coordinated action is urgently needed. 👉 To learn more about the situation and our intervention, read our article: https://lnkd.in/dUkgPatw #LebanonCrisis #HumanitarianCrisis #StandWithLebanon #GSIF

“ActionAid welcomes the Court's ruling affirming prima facie jurisdiction and indicating provisional measures, including the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance to and the protection of the Palestinian civilian population. These measures – which include taking all measures to prevent acts of genocide, such as the killing of and causing of serious bodily or mental harm to Palestinians – are potent steps toward rectifying the unparalleled catastrophic situation in Gaza where more than 26,000 people have been killed, at least two thirds being women and children, and UN human rights experts report that all children under five – 335,000 – are at high risk of severe malnutrition as the risk of famine conditions increase by the day. We celebrate South Africa’s petition, and the 88 countries from the Global South who supported it and see it as a bold display of moral courage borne out of its lived experience of colonisation and the horrors of apartheid. “We call on nations to seize this moment, adhere to the ruling, and take urgent action to ensure the unequivocal implementation of these crucial measures and demand justice. Israel must be held accountable for its violations in Gaza. “However, it is clear that an immediate and permanent ceasefire is the only way to end this suffering and the world must unite to address the broader, urgent issues at hand and end this intolerable loss of civilian life.” Read in full: https://lnkd.in/gqPsSkQW
