Have you ever had to redesign an HR (or any) program only to waste months and return to square one? It happened to me. I was an HR executive responsible for global talent management processes. Our performance management model was not generating consistent results. It also required more flexibility to adapt to changing business priorities. Adding to the complexity, the new process needed to integrate and enable development, compensation, and succession planning. So, we wanted to rely on proven practices. We started looking for external consulting firms to help us. It took around three weeks of calls and meetings to get them to understand what we needed. We then asked for a proposal and a quote for the project. It took another couple of weeks and came back way beyond our budget. Other firms we were pursuing in parallel didn’t even respond in time. Sounds familiar? Back to square one. We then decided to do it on our own, but we still needed guidance. At the time, the best resource for this was the methodologies from the Corporate Executive Board (CEB), now owned by Gartner. We knew it provided good resources because we used to have a membership but stopped paying because it was expensive. It took another couple of weeks to discuss this with their account executive. We only needed to access the materials for performance management and related processes, so we thought it would be more affordable. It didn’t work that way. It was still around $40K to re-subscribe. Again, back to square one. What ended up happening? Much research, conversations with peer companies, and piecing things together resulted in significant time invested on top of the months already wasted by then. And that was in a large enough organization. Small and midsize companies would have had even more limitations. Today, organizations considering building new HR programs from scratch or improving existing ones do not need to endure this ordeal. We have built what we always wanted to have to make life much easier. Even during our time as top consultants, all this know-how was always dispersed or concealed in experts' minds. This is what we have now made available through Wowledge. Accessing everything needed to implement the performance management (or any other) program will not cost several thousands of dollars… it will cost less than 1% of that. Having cost-effective access to leading practices, how-to guides, and tools is always a challenge for lean HR teams. Redesigning a critical HR process or addressing a novel challenge requires expertise that can be, unfortunately, difficult to come by in such organizations.
