Early on in my career, I recognized something that has stuck with me… and it still exists. Equity, Diversity and inclusion is empowering! It’s about kindness, respect, integrity, accountability and civility… It’s the mark of organizational culture, which if valued, helps to develop an environment where all can thrive. EDI is about operating with kindness, respect, integrity, accountability and civility. It’s about fairness. BUT EDI is a CHOICE not a guarantee. It’s something that we need to work on constantly. Something we need to build into our culture. Something that we have to learn to value within our personal lives and workplaces. The truth is, it is also something that is always under-construction. That doesn’t mean that organisations should see it as a never-ending activity; rather they should see it as something that is transformative and by its very nature… EVOLVING. Let’s not continue the long-standing one and done philosophy of diversity and inclusion. Let’s not do one small thing and believe that the box has been ticked and we need move no further. Those who stick with it are the ones who will truly embed EDI into organisational culture and have the best workplace environments of the future….
