Is human presence essential to understanding cultural heritage? Can AI replicate their artistic and emotional intelligence? Can their comprehension guarantee conservation efforts align with the cultural context and significance of preserving the heritage?

Back in 2019 I proposed in the Greek newspaper EFSYN the initiative to designate a 50×50 Target[1] for the prefecture of Crete designating 50% of our land as protected and 50% as eligible for economic activity. The protection status refered to protected habitats, wetlands and archaeological sites. Since 2023 the 30×30 Target[2] calls governments worldwide to designate 30% of Earth’s land and ocean area as protected areas by 2030. What seemed utopian in 2019 for an insular Mediterranean prefecture is a global political goal today. https://lnkd.in/eQpcyBy5
