The settlement of House vs. NCAA lawsuit 👨⚖️ will change the structure of how each university operates its #NIL and collective operations. Since the announcement of the settlement last week, there have been a few FAQs ❓ that have been consistent in the reactions from college sports fans: 1️⃣ what is the formula that will determine how past players will be paid for their "lost" NIL earnings? 2️⃣ with revenue sharing, how will schools will distribute funds across sports and genders in compliance with #TitleIX? Some facts on 2️⃣ - Title IX law mandates gender equity in educational programs, including athletics, receiving federal funding. Title IX also encompasses factors beyond financial considerations, such as scholarship opportunities, facilities, and resources provided to male and female athletes - Potential issues lie in the disparity between revenue-generating sports like football and basketball, typically male-dominated, and non-revenue or less-profitable sports, which often include a significant number of female athletes - If revenue sharing primarily benefits athletes in high-profile, male-dominated sports, it could exacerbate existing disparities and potentially violate Title IX - Failure to address Title IX implications adequately could lead to legal challenges and jeopardize the integrity of college athletics. If schools do not act equitably, Student-athletes or advocacy groups can file lawsuits against institutions for non-compliance. This could lead to federal investigations, and the withdrawal of federal funds, which can significantly impact an institution’s financial health and ability to operate effectively For more information on how schools may choose to navigate Title IX nuances as it prepares for this new era of college athletics, check out the below video 👇 https://lnkd.in/gCUgAKg5 #HouseVsNCAA #NIL #TitleIX

One of the joys of March Madness is the complete chaos the tournament presents. But if you look around college sports right now, it’s more than just the games that are unpredictable. The whole industry feels like it’s serving up chaos soup. These major factors are fundamentally changing college sports: 👉 NIL rules have given athletes new opportunities to earn money 👉 The transfer portal has made player movement far more common 👉 Conference realignment has upended long-time rivalries At the heart of these changes is almost always the same thing: Money. Players will seek new opportunities, including changing schools if there is a better chance to showcase themselves. Schools are looking around and trying to pair up to form super conferences to cash in on TV rights and ticket sales. Some of this will likely be for the better – We'll almost certainly see some restrictions and regulations that will act as guardrails for the future. But a lot of it feels like a great unknown right now. College sports is going to look a lot different than it has for much of its history. What do you think of these changes? #sportsbusiness #NIL #innovation

This “hot take” will not be popular. But enough already. The cat is out of the tube of toothpaste (if you get it, thanks for listening to The College Sports Show, Sundays, 10 am - 12 pm, on 97.3 The Game). There is no resolution to the degrading state of major college athletics until FOUNDATIONAL changes are made, such as… Three Power Conferences representing football and men’s basketball are formed. This new “association” effectively admits that its teams loosely represent institutions and have academic/facility partnerships with a college/university. Teams are their own entities, but owned in majority by a university in the same way they own stakes in new ventures created by faculty who create a new drug or tech. The association negotiates television rights, NIL parameters, and collective bargaining with players. “It’s ugly.” “It’s not true to college athletics.” “But what about the children (i.e., student-athletes)?” 🙄 Major college athletics passed that threshold TWO years ago, and maybe longer, when the NCAA signed its first billion dollar television contracts for basketball and football. Those that truly want to be student-athletes can still be student-athletes. Enough with avoiding this end game. The longer we do, the worse it will get. Respond as you will.

Reports are swarming in about a proposed college football “Super League”, which would take the seventy most important football programs in the country, split them into seven divisions, and create a collectively bargained league. There is also wiggle-room in the proposal for smaller schools to be promoted from the second tier into the first, similar to European soccer leagues’ relegation system. The proposal is being drafted by a group that calls themselves “College Sports Tomorrow”, which is comprised of various power-brokers and stakeholders from across the country – including university presidents and sports executives. To be clear, this proposal is still in its early stages. One big problem with actualizing the plan could be the massive media rights contracts that conferences have already signed with TV providers.

The SID life: Wake up at 8. See the final edits from the president have come in. See the new edits from the AD have come in. Computer has gone dead. Plug in charger. Charger has a short in it. Get out old Surface. Use last 10 minutes of Surface power to get story posted. Start clicking to send story out to every mailing list we have. Surface dies. Get back on laptop that now has five minutes of power since you've left it alone for 15 minutes on the shorting charger. Send story out to every mailing list possible. Computer dies 30 seconds later. Breathe a sigh of relief. Get the text from the new AD that not all of his edits went in. Use my phone to get in the back end of the website and make the change, all while going into source code and deleting it because even though I'm on my phone, SIDEARM still reads the coding as being from Office. Get the final edits in the story and get everything posted. But, we do what we do and it's going to be a good day! https://lnkd.in/es-Qan9b
