May is Small Business Month in the United States. Data from the U.S. Small Business Administration shows 33.3 million businesses in the country qualify as small businesses, making up 99.9% of all U.S. businesses. Although more than 80% of small businesses operate without any staff, these businesses still employ 61.6 million people, or 45.9% of the entire U.S. workforce.

Though Small Business Week is over, don’t forget how small business are the heart of a community. Here are tips for celebrating them during #SmallBusinessMonth. 

According to the Small Business Administration, 33.3 million small businesses make up 99.9% of all businesses in the United States. Small businesses employ 61.6 million people, which is 45.9% of the entire workforce – even though 80% of small businesses have no employees and are solely managed by their owners. From quaint mom-and-pop shops to multi-generational enterprises (and local marketing and PR firms!), these businesses play a crucial role in our society and deserve recognition for their dedication and perseverance. The U.S Small Business Administration (SBA) National Small Business Week recognizes the contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, creating about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year. According to data from U.S. SBA  , over 97% of all businesses in New Hampshire are small businesses with under 20 employees, 39.6% of small businesses are owned by women, 8.9% are owned by veterans, and 4% are owned by a racial minority. To celebrate Small Business Week, consider supporting small businesses by shopping local, sharing on social media and posting reviews.
