This week’s leadership tip is on End of the Year Recognition – For us it’s about the Holiday Parties! This is huge for us at CITY Furniture, as a way to recognize the incredible work of our associates and have some fun! 🎉 ❤️   This is such a big deal to me because my wife and I love hosting the Corporate Holiday Parties at our home. Yep. We just had two parties at our house for our Corporate Associates, the Sales Team hosts within their stores and among their teams, and the Ops Team has their parties at our 4 warehouses. Unfortunately, I can’t have everyone over at once. Ha.   The end of the year offers a perfect opportunity to have holiday parties so that we express our gratitude and love for all of our CITY Fam. When it comes to having the holiday parties at our house, there is nothing like having everyone over our home and breaking bread, sharing a margarita together, eating some good food and having a good time. We don’t do any corporate business stuff. Just pure party! 🥳 However, we do give some raffle prizes for our Suggestion System Winners. Love hanging out with everyone. Such a great group of people! 😊   Love that we make this a major part of our Recognition Strategy for the End of the Year. S&L Hospitality has properties in North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin and we are committed to staying connected, no matter which location. In the times of "virtual," it can be easy to say "let's jump on a call." We hold weekly 1-on-1's, monthly GM calls, quarterly leadership sessions just to name a few of our virtual meetings. But we also say "let's put something on the calendar for a visit," and these past 4 days were my favorite visit yet! This week was our "GM Summit." The gathering consists of all of our property General Managers coming together under one roof, meeting with our vendor partners, participating in group discussions, sessions covering a variety of topics, good food, a few drinks, and team building activities (Of course we throw in something competitive!) There is a lot of collaboration that goes into putting an event like this together but when you get to sit back and watch it all come together, WOW - is it all worth it! "So nice to put a face to the name... Let's exchange numbers... Call me anytime..." Listening to all the conversations and connections being made, the contiagous laughter, the ideas and thoughts being shared... and on our final day 'this was just what I needed' seemed to be the theme. Bringing everyone together helped not only on a physical level but also emotionally and mentally. To be in a room with so many professional, experienced, and down to earth people was such a great feeling. "Hospitality is all about teamwork, and everyone is always working towards shared goals. This means that everyone is on board to help each other out and you will feel appreciated and valued by each of your colleagues. The main priority in any hospitality job is to satisfy the customer and make their experience perfect" - and I think this team achieved just that! This gathering reminded us of our passion for why we chose this industry, inspired us on how to be a better leader, and how to care for our teams. Next year, we will transition the title from "GM Summit" to a 'Leadership Conference' and would love to see you there! I saw a now hiring sign at a small shop while I was out delivering pizza and swung in the next day to apply. Started off busting tires and changing oil. Probably one of the best decisions I every made in my life. 2️⃣ Why I stay in the aftermarket? -- I found my passion and my people in this industry. The Aftermarket just feels like home; yes, our aftermarket family is a little crazy, very diverse opinions, and even a little irritating at times but I can think of no better place I want to spend the rest of my career. The people, the passion, and the tenacity of this industry is what keeps me motivated to not only stay but to contribute to its betterment where I can. 3️⃣ ONE word the committee might use to describe me? -- "Eclectic" - I am uniquely me and always trying to glean the best parts of my experiences. Having managed Joe for a year, and been Joe's friend for going on 7 years, I would say Joe is not everyone's cup-of-tea. He doesn't play the politics of corporate norms, so don't try to put him in a box.
