From January 24-26, I had the privilege to host our continent and senior property leaders at La Convergencia, a leadership gathering for Marriott's Caribbean and Latin America region. An appropriate name for this meeting, La Convergencia means a coming together or a common direction. Our common direction has been defined by our company and regional strategy as we look for new growth and performance improvement opportunities. The continent theme for the year is simply More in ’24. More happy associates, happy guests, and happy owners.  CALA has been increasing our performance dramatically the last three years and as leaders we have set bold business goals for 2024. Mr. Marriott always remarks that our business strategy is simply “More”, a belief to which we all subscribe. At Marriott we fundamentally know that when we grow the business, we grow careers and opportunities for our associates. Over 50% of our leaders began in hourly associate ranks, me included. During La Convergencia we came together for important opportunities in networking, education and of course, a celebration "Sparkle" party, like no other. On the education front, I encouraged the team to find ways to bring our strategy to life, to “make it real“. Too many times in business, I find the corporate buzz word or hype of the moment defines a strategy without real end-to-end thinking of how to take an idea or strategic intent and make it real, solving a true business/customer issue and designing new measurable, discernable, visible products or services that can scale and be adopted by the market. As a team, we spent a great deal of time learning from other best-in-class organizations and how they move from ideas to execution. We had a fantastic line-up of external speakers from PepsiCo Monica Bauer Mengelberg on DEI, Publicis Sapient Jagdish Ghanshani, Pete Groves, Ricardo Fragale, Adrian Fiz on the changing consumer landscape, McKinsey Brooke Weddle Ph.D., Alex Gersovitz on workforce trends, Richard Sandoval Hospitality Eli Jushvaev, Greg Howe on F&B innovation, and expert advice from Deloitte’s Nobel Prize winner in Physics on Artificial Intelligence Michael Segala, Ph.D.. I’ll just say WOW!  Each speaker brought forward thought-provoking ideas and inspiration with real and pragmatic ways to execute each idea so we can do More.  We are most grateful to each of them for sharing their precious time and insights. We have big goals in 2024, but one thing I know without hesitation or reservation, is we have the most talented team in CALA to make it happen!  #SomosCALA #marriottinternational #Leadership
