Continuing the series on private equity concepts, let’s talk about the types of AIFs: SEBI classifies AIFs into three categories: Category I refers to AIFs that invest in start-ups or early-stage ventures. Investments in infrastructure or social ventures also fall into this category. Category II refers to AIFs that invest in mid-stage or late-stage businesses in the form of debt or equity. A private equity fund typically falls into this category. This is a residual category, meaning that AIFs not classified under Category I or Category III are classified as Category II. Category III AIFs include hedge funds or funds that trade with the goal of making short-term returns. They use complex trading strategies and may invest in listed or unlisted derivatives. Category III AIFs are allowed to use leverage of up to two times the fund NAV, whereas Category I and II AIFs can borrow only to meet temporary funding requirements. This allows Category III funds to take advantage of market opportunities and invest accordingly.

Allocators poured in over $16 billion across private equity, credit, real assets and hedge funds in June, with half of all mandates still going to PE managers, according to the latest AW Research Investor Scorecard. Tracking over 100 mandates across alternative asset classes, it was clear that June capped off an already busy 2024 that saw $72 billion put to work by global allocators, as reported by Alternatives Watch. On average, roughly $12 billion is being committed monthly across alternative asset classes, with each month typically totaling upwards of 100-plus mandates, according to AW Research. https://lnkd.in/gKG4HwE4

Natixis Investment Managers's Nick Elward Sr talks to ETF Express about the firm's expanding asset base and range of #etfs.
