Nurse Educator | Leader | Professional Development Specialist | An empowered nurse who strives to empower fellow nurses through continuing education and professional development.
The logic here is plain and simple: If we trust someone, we listen to them. But why is it that despite being the most trusted profession in the US for the past 22 years, many nurses still feel like their voices aren't being heard? The juxtaposition is startling. Nurses are on the frontlines, providing essential care, yet their insights and concerns often seem to be overlooked. There are a few potential reasons for this discrepancy: 👉🏼 Hierarchical Barriers - Healthcare is often structured in a hierarchical manner, which can inadvertently silence the voices of nurses. This structure sometimes creates a divide between nurses and decision-makers, leading to a lack of direct communication channels. 👉🏼 Underrepresentation in Leadership - Nurses are underrepresented in healthcare leadership positions. Without adequate representation, the unique challenges and perspectives of nurses may not be fully understood or addressed at the higher levels of decision-making. 👉🏼 Workload and Burnout - The intense workload and emotional toll of nursing, especially in the wake of the pandemic, can lead to burnout. This exhaustion might hinder nurses from actively voicing their concerns or feeling that their efforts to speak up would lead to meaningful change. 👉🏼 Lack of Supportive Platforms - There is a lack of platforms where nurses can openly discuss their concerns without fear of repercussions. Open, supportive environments are crucial for nurses to share their insights and experiences. As we acknowledge these challenges, it's crucial to transition from recognition to action. Here's my call to action for all healthcare stakeholders: ✅ Amplify Nurses' Voices - We need to create and support platforms dedicated to listening to and amplifying the voices of nurses. This could include regular town hall meetings, anonymous feedback systems, or dedicated committees. ✅ Promote Nurse Leadership - Encourage and support nurses to take up leadership roles. This can be through leadership training programs, mentorship, and recognizing the potential of nurses as leaders. ✅ Address Workload and Burnout - Implement strategies to manage workload and prevent burnout. This includes adequate staffing, providing mental health support, and recognizing the hard work of nurses. ✅ Encourage Collaborative Decision Making - Foster an environment where decisions are made collaboratively, valuing the input from nurses as frontline healthcare providers. I invite you all to join this conversation. How can we better listen to and act upon the concerns of nurses? Your insights and suggestions are invaluable! #Nurses #NurseEmpowerment #ListenToNurses #EmpoweredNurseMentor #NursesOnLinkedin

To tackle potential upcoming nursing shortages, healthcare leaders and the government must take immediate action. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is actively working on solutions, such as pushing for new laws and more funding for nursing education. They are also creating programs to help nurses grow in their careers and stay in the profession, and they're encouraging new and innovative approaches to nursing education. As we face this problem, it's clear that some areas will be more affected than others. Data shows that 37 out of 50 states will have a significant shortage, impacting patient care and nurse morale. For nurses, the situation is a bit tricky. While there are plenty of job opportunities, there's also a significant risk of being forced out of the profession. #NurseShortage #HealthcareLeaders #GovernmentRegulations

Interview with Thomas Hazel, MSN, Associate Professor, NCLEX Success Team, Nightingale College “Many people don’t realize how much nurses contribute to patient outcomes. Their vigilance, quick thinking, and ability to respond to changes in a patient’s condition can make all the difference in recovery. Nurses also play a crucial role in educating patients and their families and helping them understand how to manage their health.” #RegisteredNurse #NursingCareer #HealthcareProfessionals #NursingEducation #RN #PatientCare #NursingJobs #Healthcare #NurseLife #NursingSchool #ClinicalPractice #HealthcareCareers #NursingCommunity #FutureNurse #NursingLicensure

Nurses are feeling overworked and burned out, and there are not enough #nurses to fill the gaps left by those leaving the industry. This means your hospital halls will soon be empty, but not for the reason you think. Your nursing staff will be virtual. “We are going to produce the first generation of nurses who could potentially never touch a patient," says Shakira Henderson, dean and chief administrative officer and AVP for nursing education, practice, and research at the University of Florida College of Nursing, and the system CNE of UF Health. Many organizations are turning to #virtualnursing to address staffing and wellbeing, and with the current trajectory #virtualcare will be an integral part of the future of healthcare. Steve Klahn, system clinical director for virtual medicine at Houston Methodist, says virtual nursing roles are about to expand exponentially. Klahn predicted that within the next five to 10 years, 60% to 70% of nursing positions across the industry will become virtual or have a virtual component. So, while your rooms won’t be completely devoid of in-person nurses, soon an entire department of onsite clinical staff will be a thing of the past. "We will have a virtual nursing job duty be on rotation to all experienced staff," Jesus Cepero, CNO at Stanford Children's Health | Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford said, "so everybody can actually do that role and have a little a break from the direct care nurse role between delivering patient care." In this month's HealthLeaders #coverstory, our CNO editor G Hatfield breaks down how health systems can adapt and advance before they are left behind. Read it here! https://lnkd.in/eVbmZ2_v
